So far in December our state has seen only 17% of the available sunlight due to persistant cloud cover.

I guess we are not alone:

Chicago to Break Sunshine Shortage Record...

There has been no direct sunshine recorded in Chicago for 15 days this month, according to Frank Wachowski, who mans the official North West Side Midway Airport sunlight observatory.
Since Dec. 12, the city has seen only 33 minutes of sunshine, which peeked through the clouds Thursday.
As of Monday, Wachowski had recorded 16 percent sun exposure this month.

You gotta love the GREEN movement when they cut down 18,000 trees.

Solar Panels Catch Fire on Roof of Green Party Building...
A woman passer-by told reporters: “There’s lots of acrid smoke which is so bad that lots of passers-by are covering their mouths. The smoke seemed to be coming from the back of the building. You can see the smoke from at least half a mile away. It’s thick black smoke, it’s got to be quite a substantial fire.”

O’Leary said that solar panels present numerous additional challenges to firefighters, with the result that buildings fitted with solar panels are sometimes left to simply burn out rather than be tackled in the event of a fire.

“In contrast to the power used by conventional mains electrical equipment, the power that PV systems generate is DC (direct current) and parts of the system cannot be switched off. DC installations have a continuous current, making them more hazardous (volt for volt) than normal AC (alternating current) electrical installations.”

“Furthermore, solar PV modules are manufactured to include a number of potentially hazardous chemicals and materials which may be released as a side-effect of the fire damage. All of these considerations, and more, can lead to the fire service deciding that the level of risk and uncertainty is too high to justify dealing with the property fire at all – resulting in some instances where properties have been literally left to burn out.”
“Just typical of the greens. Probably created the most pollution over their tenure than any other party anywhere."

Tesla builds a big battery. Media overcome with joy.

Tesla Powerwall is an ordinary lithium-ion battery. They have existed since 1979. So why is the 85th company (and person) that is producing mundane technology treated as the messiah of energy?

The hype surrounding Tesla and its batteries is just silly nonsense that provides an excuse for people who are just bad at simple math to experience a momentary pants-wetting bliss.

Like much of the "renewable" nonsense that has come out of Google over the years, it will be forgotten in a few months time.

Overall, this is a plot to make a highly anti-environmental product and highly anti-environmental people look like they are helpful for the environment.

German TV show mocks green energy

The epic stupidity of German green energy can no longer be hidden

The Epic Stupidity of Green Energy, Part XLIV

"The switch over to renewable energies was instilled in German citizens by state propaganda, green brainwashing and with the help of all of Germany’s mainstream media. The unconditional necessity to advance into alternative energies has become a religious creed."

"The argument goes as follows: The rescue of the planet from a death by heat and the immediate shutdown of the irresponsible German nuclear power plants are essential. The question of whether this is really true is not be asked, let alone discussed.”

At the political level, Lüdecke blasts the atmosphere of intimidation against people who have alternative views, who often are threatened with physical violence from radical leftists groups.

- German physicist and climate scientist and spokesman for the European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE), Prof. Dr. Horst-Joachim Lüdecke

Why does solar and wind supply less than 2% of the world's energy?

Video clearly explains the diluteness problem and intermittency problem:

ELON MUSK IN CROSSHAIRS OVER BILLIONS IN GOVT SUBSIDIES...

From Enron to Bernie Madoff, at the end of every great American financial scandal, the totality of the perpetrators’ greed seems to be matched only by the public’s incredulity at how such a thing could be allowed to happen.

Already grossly subsidized, Musk’s SolarCity has become an albatross of waste, fraud, and abuse of tax payer dollars. As legitimate earnings and cash become even scarcer for SolarCity, its entanglement in the Tesla empire suggests that a drastic reckoning not only is imminent, but in fact emboldening Musk to become more outlandish and reckless.

Notably, SolarCity is run by Musk’s cousins, Lyndon and Peter Rive. During his chairmanship at SolarCity, Musk’s family enterprise has taken in billions of taxpayer dollars in subsidies from both the federal and local governments. But the subsidies and sweetheart deals were not enough, as losses and missed projections continued to mount.

Now Tesla stockholders were being forced to absorb a failing, cash-burning company and pay top dollar to do so.

Thanks to Musk’s cozy relationship with the New York Governor, the state has granted at least $750 million of its taxpayers’ money to SolarCity, building the company a factory and charging it only $1 per year in rent.

It would be hard to imagine such an operation would not be lucrative for its shareholders. And yet somehow, SolarCity never has made a profit.

It’s not just in New York. In this year’s race for Arizona Corporation Commission, the state’s public utilities overseers, only one outside group funneled cash into the contest.

Burning through taxpayer dollars, buying elections, and expanding a network of crony capitalism has become inherent to the SolarCity model.

In 2013 alone, SolarCity received $127.4 million in federal grants. The following year, in which it received only $342,000 from the same stimulus package, total revenue was just $176 million and the company posted a net loss of $375 million.

Solar Victories = Crony Capitalism

Despite a huge workforce of almost 400,000 solar workers, that sector produced an insignificant share, less than 1 percent, of the electric power generated in the United States last year (EIA data here).

That’s a lot of solar workers: about the same as the combined number of employees working at Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Apple, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Pfizer, Ford Motor Company and Procter & Gamble.
