China will build 20 large coal mines each with capacity of 10 million to 40 million tons by 2015, reports Shanghai Securities, citing He Youguo, deputy director of the China Coal Industry Development Research Center.

According to He, the coal output of large mines with production capacities of more than 50 million tons will account for 65 percent of China's total coal output by 2015.

The mining industry will focus on open pit mines of 10 million tons during the 12th Five-Year Plan. The current total output of open pit mines is 250 million tons.

While coal use in America and Europe has leveled, coal use worldwide is increasing dramatically.

The growth in fossil fuel over the last five years has dwarfed the growth in renewables. Nuclear and hydro are level but predicted to grow only moderately in the next few decades

While the developed world is switching from coal to natural gas, the developing world sees coal as their savior.

Japan building 45 HELE coal plants, Australia 1 (maybe)

Japan will use Australian coal to build 45 modern coal fired plants:

Japan is the largest overseas market for Australian coal producers, taking more than a third of all exports. Japan needs to import 95% of its energy.

Australia is the largest exporter of coal in the world, and has the largest known uranium resources in the world, but we voluntarily wear a hair shirt to appease GAIA.

We sacrifice our cheap energy advantage for fear that loud ill-mannered people who are bad at maths will call us selfish and uncaring.

North Korean ships head home after China orders coal returned

To make up for the shortfall from North Korea, China has ramped up imports from the United States in an unexpected boon for U.S. President Donald Trump, who has declared he wants to revive his country's struggling coal sector.

Eikon data shows no U.S. coking coal was exported to China between late 2014 and 2016, but shipments soared to over 400,000 tonnes by late February.

Rising coal capacity

Global coal capacity grew in every year between 2000 and 2018, nearly doubling from 1,066GW to 2,024GW.  The rate of growth is slowing dramatically, however, with the 20GW net increase in 2018 the smallest in several decades.

The promise of cheap electricity to fuel economic growth has driven this expansion. Coal generates nearly 40% of the world’s electricity, close to its highest share in decades. And there are now 78 countries using coal power, up from 66 in 2000. Another 16 plan to join the club, notably Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.                           https://www.carbonbr...al-power-plants
