Friday's BNN interview - just in case you missed it!

http://watch.bnn.ca/#clip553893

Also, I will be on Fox Business News, Thursday, October 27 at approximately 2 PM ET.

---------------------------------------------

STOCKS - NEUTRAL

Except for the TSX Venture and the Russell 2000, all the major indexes have now managed to post new relative highs as compared to the summer lows. Except for today, Turnaround Tuesday, the odds still somewhat favor higher prices over the short-term due to traditional end of the month 'window dressing' and new U.S. 401(k) funds being put to work early next week at the beginning of the month. I see the uptrend and seasonality favors higher stock prices, so watching the next correction for possible long-entry into the market will be a high priority. I saw possible because of if volume turns negative, any subsequent sell-off could be quite nasty. That said, we now the Plunge Protection Team is likely providing some extra fire power to the market knowing the dire financial and psychological consequences should this market breaking the August lows. VRtrader Platinum subscribers took some trading profits today ahead of an expected one or two day pullback here.

GOLD - BULL

Following the advent of some Positive Leibovit Volume Reversals in gold ETFs on Friday, we saw some nice upside follow-through yesterday. My bias is that the gold could see more of a short-term bounce and perhaps even a bigger move if seasonality is truly kicking in as it should in the current time frame. That said, the bulls have to prove their case and gold would have to clear the recent 1696.20 (October 17) high on volume in which case the next target is the mid 1700s. There is still on the table the risk that the current rally is 'corrective' even if we achieve a push into the mid 1700s and that we're not quite out of the woods yet with regard to the resumption of the bull market. Details are in my weekly Leibovit VR Gold Letter.

BONDS - NEUTRAL

I remain NEUTRAL to slightly bearish on bonds, as I have reported to you. Should the equity market nosedive again whether related to European financial crisis or other news event, I advise caution on the long side. Bonds are debt. The debt is expressed in currency whose value and very existence is questionable at best in my view. Bonds may be a temporary sanctuary, but with thorns attached, except perhaps for bonds outside of the U.S. and Europe.

STOCK MARKET SUMMARY:

The stock market rallied to new multi-month highs yesterday after some good earnings reports (see Caterpillar below), strong economic news from China, merger and acquisition news (see Cigna buying HealthSpring and Oracle buying RightNow below), and on news that President Obama plans a series of moves in an attempt to boost the economy. The Dow Industrials rose 104.83 or 0.89% to 11913.62, the S&P gained 15.94 or 1.29% to 1254.19, and the NASDAQ jumped 61.98 or 2.35% to 2699.44.

There was a clear move to risk yesterday with the small-cap Russell 2000 surging 3.27%, more than tripling the headline return on the Dow. In contrast, defensive stocks actually fell (XLP -0.70% and XLU -0.43%).

Even though yesterday's advance was not nearly as large as Friday's, the ratio of advancers to decliners and up volume to down volume was just as bullish. Percent of S&P 500 stocks trading above their 50 day moving average reached 91.60% yesterday, the sixth highest level in the 11 year history of the indicator.

Financials led the advance (XLF +2.21%) on news that European leaders are nearing a deal to recapitalize European banks.

Commodity stocks also outperformed (XLB +2.40% and XLE +1.31%) as metals and oil both rallied.

The Industrial sector was the other big winner (XLI +1.8%) after Caterpillar (CAT +5.01%) reported a 44% increase in earnings and a growing sales backlog.

Although normally a defensive sector, healthcare stocks rose (XLV +1.51%) after Cigna's (CI +1.43%) purchase of HealthSpring (HS +33.74%) for $3.8 billion.

Also in M&A news, Technology rallied (XLK +1.57%) as Oracle (+2.33%) said it will buy RightNow Technologies (RNOW +19.41%) for $1.5 billion.

With yesterday's rally, all the major market indexes are trading at rally highs. Furthermore, these indexes are trading solidly above their 50-day moving averages are nearing their 200-day moving averages. This may prove to be resistance here (DJIA 11967 and SPX 1275), but a break through them would give the bulls even more strength.

Returning to sector action, five of the nine sectors (XLY, XLP, XLU, XLK, XLV) are trading above both their 50- and 200-day moving averages. So even though no major index is above its 200-day moving average, a majority of sectors are. However, three of those five outperforming sectors are defensive in nature. Bulls cannot rely on defensive stocks to provide leadership in a rally.

--------------------------------------------
DOW TRANSPORTS - ACTION ALERT -

Transportation stocks are outperformed after FedEx (FDX +2.75%) said it will hire 20,000 seasonal employees, expecting a strong holiday season. The group also got a boost from the general trend toward riskier, more economically sensitive stocks. The Dow Jones Transportation Average jumped 88.12 or 1.83% to 4901.95, its highest level since early August.

Resistance lies ahead at the psychologically important 5000 level and just above it at the 200-day moving average at 5028.

--------------------------------------------
GOLD and METALS - ACTION ALERT -

Precious metals rallied yesterday but industrial metals did even better as traders returned to risk and bet on an improving economy. A weak Dollar also helped all commodities. Gold jumped 11.30 to 153.30, silver rose 0.34 to 31.74, platinum gained 34 to 1545, palladium rallied 27 to 639, and copper surged 0.2260 to 3.4490--a seven percent gain in one session and up nearly thirteen percent in the last two sessions.

Copper was helped by news from Chile that copper output declined 5% for the year so far as of the end of August over the previous year to 3.37 million tons.

From www.equityclock.com: "Seasonal influences for gold and gold equities have just entered into a period of seasonal strength from the third week in October to the end of February."

Mark Leibovit is currently ranked the #1 U.S. Gold Timer by TIMER DIGEST Magazine. For more details on the metals, sign up for the Leibovit VR Gold Letter at www.vrgoldletter.com.

--------------------------------------------
URANIUM - ACTION ALERT

Spot Uranium traded at 52.75 and is slowly giving up recent gains. Uranium has swung from the June 13, 2007 high of 154.95 down to 40.00 and recently backup to 73.00 until the Japanese earthquake. Since then, we're trading between 52.00 and 62.50.

Some low-priced Uranium stocks have been showing some signs of accumulation. We traded URRE and DNN this past week, but cannot say if the current move has any legs at this time.

--------------------------------------------
BONDS - ACTION ALERT-

Treasuries fell yesterday as traders shifted from safety to risk. The long bond future declined 13/32 to 138 3/32.

While stocks are moving to rally highs, which should have pushed down bond prices, Treasuries have treaded water for the last two weeks. This relative strength could be the result of the Fed's Operation Twist, in which the Federal Reserve sells short-term Treasuries and buys and equal amount of long-term Treasuries.

--------------------------------------------

CRUDE OIL - ACTION ALERT -

Oil rallied yesterday on hopes that Europe will be able to resolve its debt crisis, which would help stabilize the economy. A good economic report out of China, the rally in stocks, and uncertainty after the death of Saudi Arabia's crown prince also helped. Crude oil rallied 3.87 to 91.27. its highest close since August 3.

Chinese demand for oil fell to its lowest level of the year in September. Platts reported that China used 8.95 million barrels of oil per day in September, up 3.1% year over year, but the second straight month it has fallen below 9 million barrels a day.

Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud died on Saturday, fueling uncertainty about leadership plans in the world's largest exporter of petroleum.

--------------------------------------------
US DOLLAR AND CURRENCIES- ACTION ALERT -

The US Dollar Index fell yesterday as traders moved to risk and the Euro received a boost by moves to contain the debt crisis. The US Dollar Index declined 0.367 to 76.028, its lowest level in six weeks.

European leaders met over the weekend and announced on Sunday that they were make progress toward a plan to deal with the debt crisis. Progress has been made on a deal to recapitalize European banks, but they are having more trouble deciding what to do about Greece and the 440 billion euro European Financial Stability Facility. However, media reports said that Germany is supporting expansion of the EFSF to more than a trillion euros through increased leverage.

The eurozone's purchasing managers index fell from 49.1 to 47.2 in October, it lowest level since July 2009 and below expectations of 48.8.

Additionally, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi called a special cabinet meeting for Monday evening after he came under pressure from other euro-zone leaders to do more to boost growth and reduce Italy's debt burden.

The Euro rose 0.26% against the Dollar.

The Yen continued to rally and hit more new highs against the Dollar even though Japanese officials threatened to intervene in the currency markets to suppress the yen's strength.

The Yen gained 0.15% against the Dollar.

--------------------------------------------
ECONOMIC NEWS:

President Barack Obama will announce this week a series of moves that do not require Congressional approval in an attempt to boost the economy. First, he will announce that the Federal Housing Finance Agency will make it easier for borrowers with little or no equity to refinance their loans at lower interest rates. Later, the President will announce a new initiative on student loans.

HSBC reported Chinese manufacturing conditions rose to a five-month high. China's Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index rose from 49.9 to 51.1, back up the 50 level that divides expansion from contraction.
