Speaking of UP-SIDE DOWN...
Last month we found out that PETA killed 27,000 animals, 95% of animals in their care!(finding homes for only 24 pets.)

In a similar vein, 100,000 birds are killed every year by
GREEN WINDMILLS
while a few scattered lizards prevent oil well drilling in the West Texas desert.

And NOBODY PROTESTS THEIR NEEDLESS DEATHS...Until today:

'Occupy Occupy DC' erects wind turbine to memorialize birds killed by wind turbines...
http://secure.campai...Eb--CWgx-o75G48

A report by the National Research Council estimated that wind turbines kill approximately 100,000 birds every year. The American Bird Conservancy claims the number could be triple that estimate -- affecting the songbird community most of all.

"At some point the slaughter of birds and bats by taxpayer-subsidized wind turbines is going to trigger serious legal action," added National Center Senior Fellow Bonner Cohen, Ph.D. "If the full force of the Migratory Bird Treaty and the Endangered Species Act were brought to bear on these unsightly killing machines, investors would turn their backs on this artificial industry in a heartbeat."

In California alone, the number of endangered eagles killed by GREEN WINDMILLS is staggering.

SOLDIER MURDERS AFGHANS, GENERALS MURDER SOLDIERS

It Was Only a Matter of Time Before One of Our Men Broke Down

When I was a young officer in training, we mocked the European “chateaux generals” of the First World War who gave their orders from elegant headquarters without ever experiencing the reality faced by the troops in the trenches. We never thought that we’d have chateaux generals of our own, but now we do. Flying down to visit an outpost and staying just long enough to pin on a medal or two, get a dog-and-pony-show briefing and have a well-scripted tea session with a carefully selected “good” tribal elder, then winging straight back to a well-protected headquarters where the electronics are more real than the troops is not the way to develop a “fingertips feel” for on-the-ground reality.

Add in the human capacity for self-delusion, and you have a surefire prescription for failure.

Right now, our troops are being used as props in a campaign year, as pawns by dull-witted generals who just don’t know what else to do, and as cash cows by corrupt Afghan politicians, generals and warlords (all of whom agree that it’s virtuous to rob the Americans blind).

The Ascendance of Sociopaths in US Governance

the US government is being overrun by the wrong kind of person. - a type of moral rot has become so prevalent that it's institutional in nature. There is not going to be any change in the direction in which the US is headed until a genuine crisis topples the existing order. Until then, the trend will accelerate.

The reason is that a certain class of people – sociopaths – are now fully in control of major American institutions.

80% of people are basically decent; their basic instincts are to live by the Boy Scout virtues. 20% of people, however, are what you might call potential trouble sources, inclined toward doing the wrong thing when the opportunity presents itself. They might now be shoe clerks, mailmen or waitresses – they seem perfectly benign in normal times. However, given the chance, they will sign up for the Gestapo, the Stasi, the KGB, the TSA, Homeland Security or whatever. Many are well intentioned but likely to favor force as the solution to any problem.

But it doesn't end there, because 20% of that 20% are really bad actors. They are drawn to government and other positions where they can work their will on other people and, because they're enthusiastic about government, they rise to leadership positions. They remake the culture of the organizations they run in their own image. Gradually, non-sociopaths can no longer stand being there. They leave. Soon the whole barrel is full of bad apples. That's what's happening today in the US.

The Hunger Games: America’s Hideous Destiny?

The Hunger Games confronts the nihilism of modernity, with struggle, even deadly struggle, presented as a path to redemption and morally preferable to consumption.

Collins presents an exaggerated portrait of our own progressive elites. They are effeminate and hysterical physical weaklings with pointless lives. The complicated edifice of power reaches its zenith .. in a contemptible menagerie of spoiled sexual deviants that give themselves cat whiskers and brightly colored wigs to look “attractive”…

Selectively controlled technology makes it possible. The Capitol’s media manipulation, genetically engineered creatures, warplanes, and hovercraft remind the reader of the current Hollywood Imperium’s unmanned drones. In contrast, Katniss is a poor and uneducated white huntress, precisely the kind of person sneered at nightly by the likes of Bill Maher or Jon Stewart. Hailing from the Appalachian coal country, she is from the one group that our own society despises beyond all others.

The Districts are contrasted with the Capitol because they produce actually useful products and necessities for life. Workers here are willing to risk their own lives in dangerous jobs to secure food for deeply loved families and friends. Meanwhile, those connected to the system can wallow in pointless luxury…

Interesting interpretation in an interesting link. Never run across that site before. Tell me, are those guys Nazis?

Another of their selections:

April 20 of this year [1989] is the 100th anniversary of the birth of the greatest man of our era — a man who dared more and achieved more, who set his aim higher and climbed higher, who felt more deeply and stirred the souls of those around him more mightily, who was more closely attuned to the Life Force which permeates our cosmos and gives it meaning and purpose, and did more to serve that Life Force, than any other man of our times.

They're talking about the great ol' Adolph. Or as they used to say: "Heil Hitler!"

The Measure of Greatness

Haven't read "The Hunger Games" or seen the movie yet, but I suspect I'll be going with those who see "the entire thing is just one large metaphor for high school." :D

"If you've heard this story before, don't stop me because I'd like to hear it again," Groucho Marx (on market history?).

“I've learned in options trading simple is best and the obvious is often the most elusive to recognize.”

"The god of trading rewards persistence, experience and discipline, and absolutely nothing else."

Nearly a million dollars in HELOC abuse

The former owners of today’s featured property lived there for 24 years. They paid just over $200,000, so with such a small mortgage, it is reasonable to assume they paid the property off. However, these owners were HELOC abusers that managed to pile on over a million dollars in debt.

I have to admit, I’m a bit jealous about this one. These people lived in an ocean view property steps from the beach for 24 years. They got to spend over a million dollars in free money to help them enjoy their property. When times were good, it must have been really good.

This property was purchased on 4/26/1988 for $220,000. I don’t have their original loan information, but they likely put 20% down and borrowed $176,000. It that number is correct, they they got over $1,000,000 in HELOC booty.

My records go back to 1997. On 5/27/1997 they refinanced with a $242,640 first mortgage and a $30,330 second mortgage. They were already well on their way to being full-blown Ponzis.

On 6/25/1998 they refinanced with a $255,000 first mortgage.
On 8/2/2000 they refinanced with a $273,500 first mortgage.
On 9/18/2001 they refinanced with a $295,000 first mortgage.
On 11/27/2001 they refinanced with a $319,500 first mortgage.
On 3/19/2002 they obtained a $230 second mortgage.
On 6/30/2003 they got a $480,000 HELOC.
On 9/7/2004 they refinanced with a $650,000 first mortgage.
On 10/4/2005 they refinanced with a $840,000 first mortgage.
On 5/24/2006 they refinanced with a $1,000,000 Option ARM with a 1% teaser rate.
On 8/15/2007 they obtained a $183,138 HELOC.
Total property debt was $1,183,138.
Total mortgage equity withdrawal was around $1,000,000.
And they got to squat for a year and a half.

Black Politicians Loot Detroit, Media Could Care Less

If a white or Asian Republican pol had looted fire and police pension funds & blighted the lives of a generation of minority kids, I don’t think this would be primarily a local news story. I would expect
there would be wall to wall national media coverage.

The 41 year old Kwame Kilpatrick may well be the worst and most destructive American of his generation; his two terms as Mayor of Detroit are among the most sordid and stomach churning episodes in the storied history of American municipal corruption.

Detroit doesn’t matter all that much to the New York Times and many of its readers for the same reasons that Albany, Queens, Buffalo and Schenectady don’t matter. The new American elite wants to live
and think as if it has transcended all that dreary provincial mess and lives on high in a world of Big Ideas and Global Issues.
There is something profoundly wrong with an American political culture that accepts chronic misgovernment in major cities as OK. It is not OK; the people who do these things may call themselves liberal Democrats
and wear the mantle of defenders of the poor, but over and over their actions place them among the most cold blooded enemies and oppressors of the weak.

Detroit may let abandoned buildings burn

Cash-strapped, arson-prone Detroit could let fires in vacant buildings and homes burn themselves out to save the city Fire Department money.

Austin's proposal would allow vacant buildings to burn if they're more than 50 percent ablaze — as long as they're not a risk to inhabited structures and the weather is favorable.

47% Of Detroit Residents Are Functionally Illiterate

The report notes that half of the illiterate population has either a high school diploma or a GED.
Per pupil spending in Detroit as of 2008 was $13,000, which is higher than some people pay for private schooling in other parts of the country.

Some of the Detroit suburbs also have high numbers of functionally illiterate: 34 percent in Pontiac and 24 percent in Southfield.

“For other major urban areas, we are a little bit on the high side… We compare, slightly higher, to Washington D.C.’s urban population, in certain ZIP codes in Washington D.C. and in Cleveland,” she said.

More HELOC Abuse -- White House Calls HELOC Abusers "Responsible Homeowners"

Supposedly, those who lose their home from excessive borrowing should be given a pass, and everyone who chose not to participate in the madness should pay for it.

President Barack Obama visited Val and Paul Keller on Friday. The White House described them as “responsible” homeowners who owe more on their mortgage than their Nevada home is currently worth.

the Kellers purchased their home in June 1998 for $127,000. So why do they have, according to the White House, a $168,000 mortgage?

White House officials now confirm to CNBC that the Kellers did a cash-out refinance in 2007, when their home had appreciated to $250,000.

I hope Obama has the good sense to fire the staffer who picked this family as an example of “responsible” homeowners.
