I have never understood why anyone in his or her right mind would open a business in France.

The two commercial operations with which I’ve been involved were a nightmare of labor problems, government red tape, tax audits and wildcat strikes – and made no profit.

French workers and students are taught hatred of business by their leftwing teachers who majored in such useless vocations as cultural anthropology and sociology. The result has been a huge surplus of youth with fancy titles but no work skills at all. Youth unemployment in France is about 30%

2012

Hollande is elected French president, only the second Socialist party president in French history.

2016

Hollande approval rating is 4%. (4 not 40)  The Socialist party will not field a candidate for this election.

Why Politicians Win (and Workers Lose) Under Socialism

Socialism leads to the politicization of society. Hardly anything can be worse for the production of wealth.

Under socialism, as people shift out of their roles as producers and users of resources we find that their personalities change. They no longer cultivate the ability to anticipate situations of scarcity to take up productive opportunities, to be aware of technological possibilities, to anticipate changes in consumer demand, and to develop strategies of marketing.

Instead, people develop the ability to assemble public support for their own position and opinion through means of persuasion, demagoguery, and intrigue, through promises, bribes, and threats. Different people rise to the top under socialism than under capitalism. The higher on the socialist hierarchy you look, the more you will find people who are too incompetent to do the job they are supposed to do. He only needs superior political skills.

France has the top welfare system in the world -- but at the same time, some people can't feed their families because they live on such a small salary.

France cannot afford the current form of socialism. The system is going to crash under its own weight.

The French system faces three major hurdles -- bloated bureaucracy, excessive welfare system and rigid employment laws. France is the only country where people only work 35 hours a week. It is almost impossible to fire anyone, which renders the cost of employment exorbitant for businesses.

Thus France has had a constant minimum of 10% unemployment built into their economy.
