La Dolce Vita (1960)

The world of shallow celebrity narcissists.

In one of the most widely seen and acclaimed European movies of the 1960s, Federico Fellini featured Marcello Mastrioanni as gossip columnist Marcello Rubini.
Having left his dreary provincial existence behind, Marcello wanders through an ultra-modern, ultra-sophisticated, ultra-decadent Rome. He yearns to write seriously,
but his inconsequential newspaper pieces bring in more money, and he's too lazy to argue with this setup

He concludes that, while his lifestyle is shallow and ultimately pointless, there's nothing he can do to change it and so he might as well enjoy it.

Michael Jackson’s kids get $8M a year allowance

Among the expenses: Prince’s $30,000 yearly tuition at a private school and the six-figure yearly payout to house, educate and treat Paris at a therapeutic boarding school in Utah following her 2013 suicide attempt.

Prince, who’s already shown himself a ladies man, has showered more than $50,000 in custom-made jewelry and other gifts on at least three different girlfriends, a family insider said. That’s $10,000 more than he plunked down for a new Ford pickup truck.

Three vacations a year to destinations including Hawaii and Vegas annually set the kids back about $350,000 — after payments for bodyguards, relatives tagging along, chauffeurs, first-class airfare and plenty of luxuries.
In Hawaii, the family usually surfs the secluded beach and roams the Kahala Hotel & Resort in Honolulu. They relax in the $5,500-per-night Signature Suite.

In Vegas, the kids have often enjoyed the 2,000-square-foot Penthouse Suite at the Bellagio, which runs from $4,000 to $5,000 nightly, not including the cost of the concierge they regularly use and access to the fitness center and the room-service tabs that have run as high as the cost of the room itself.

What is your point? Are these things you disapprove of, or aspire to?

Why did NBC reportedly pay Chelsea Clinton $600,000 a year?

NBC's hiring of Chelsea Clinton as a "special correspondent" in its news division was widely recognized as an exercise in corporate cynicism when it was announced in November 2011.

This was not NBC's first effort to kiss up to a powerful family, or the last. In 2009, the network hired George W. Bush's daughter Jenna as a correspondent for the "Today" show. Subsequently Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Abby Huntsman, daughter of one-time GOP presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman, had gigs as political commentators on MSNBC.

Acquired situational narcissism

Acquired situational narcissism (ASN) is a form of narcissism that develops in late adolescence or adulthood, brought on by wealth, fame and the other trappings of celebrity. It was coined by Robert B. Millman, professor of psychiatry at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University.

ASN differs from conventional narcissism in that it develops after childhood and is triggered and supported by the celebrity-obsessed society. Fans, assistants and tabloid media all play into the idea that the person really is vastly more important than other people, triggering a narcissistic problem that might have been only a tendency, or latent, and helping it to become a full-blown personality disorder. "Millman says that what happens to celebrities is that they get so used to people looking at them that they stop looking back at other people."

In its presentation and symptoms, it is indistinguishable from narcissistic personality disorder, differing only in its late onset and its support by large numbers of others. "The lack of social norms, controls, and of people telling them how life really is, also makes these people believe they're invulnerable,"so that the person with ASN may suffer from unstable relationships, substance abuse and erratic behaviour.

A famous fictional character with ASN is Norma Desmond, the main character of Sunset Boulevard.

Michael Moore owns 9 homes.

Since his 1989 "Roger and Me," Michael Moore has earned upwards of $50 million trashing capitalism. Some have noted that the Occupy Wall Street supporter was living like a member of the 1%.

'I just don't care!' Khloe Kardashian responds to outrage that French Montana is 'capitalizing' on the fame that comes from being her boyfriend.

French Montana is an American rapper born in Morocco. He is the founder and CEO of Cocaine City Records. Montana is known for his frequent collaborations, most recently with the group Coke Boys

Relaxing at home, Montana walks through his manicured lawn, surrounded by flowers, and into his house to change out of his robe, swim trunks and Gucci slippers. He emerges in black jeans and Givenchy kicks. It’s time to get to work.

Montana settles into a comfy red leather chair in his studio, while his longtime producer Harry Fraud rolls a joint. For the holy month, Montana, a lifelong Muslim, is abstaining from drugs, alcohol and sex.

The Narcissism Epidemic: Living in the Age of Entitlement

“Selfie” was awarded word of the year in 2013 by the Oxford Dictionary. Capturing an image of oneself – once the purview of despondent artists – has become an international pastime. Even politicians rode the trend taking selfies at memorial services.

Celebrities continued to be, well, celebrated as well. Miley Cyrus ended 2013 as the most searched person on Google, with Drake and Kim Kardashian coming in at the number two and three spots. Between them they have more “followers” than the population of an average country.

In recent weeks, we’ve seen the Ice Bucket challenge thrive, but it has been revealed that less than half of people doing the challenge are actually donating. So, for some, is it really about awareness for ALS or self-promotion?

You truly are a "glass-half-empty kind of guy." Always looking for ways to knock good deeds?

Only half donated? And the other half?

From your link:

ALS Association doesn't know yet what it's going to do with all the money raised

Take the challenge, bub.

The NFL Is Full of Ray Rices

The Baltimore Raven was indefinitely suspended even as one of his teammates suited up after punching a girlfriend in the neck.

Ray Rice’s teammate and All-Pro linebacker Terrell Suggs has twice gotten into altercations with his then-girlfriend and current wife. In 2012, he “punched her in the neck and dragged her alongside a speeding car with their two children in the vehicle.”

Carolina Panther Greg Hardy was convicted this summer of assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her life.

Brandon Marshall, wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, has a rap sheet including two domestic violence charges. He caught eight passes for 71 yards and a touchdown in an overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills last weekend.

Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys hit his mom and then said, “I’m done with domestic abuse” at a 2013 “Men Against Abuse” rally. The NFL is not done with him.

Ray McDonald of the San Francisco 49ers was part of a defense that shut down Bryant’s Cowboys, even though he was busted for felony domestic violence

Randy Starks was forced to miss a single exhibition game despite striking his fiancée. He still plays for the Miami Dolphins.

Frostee Rucker had a one-game suspension overturned by Goodell in 2007 despite two counts of spousal battery. Rucker now plays with the Cincinnati Bengals.

The only reason charges against Chicago Bears wide received Santonio Holmes were dropped in 2006 is because his accuser—the mother of his children—refused to testify against him.
