Opiates work for pain. Take an opiate for labor pain or a kidney stone or a broken arm or a tooth abscess–you will agree.

It is undeniable that patients who are in dire need of pain relief will suffer mightily in the absence of opiod narcotics.

If you think that anything else will work for metastatic cancer that has invaded the bones, then good luck to you.

Opiates do not cure chronic pain.

Opiate use results in habituation and also tolerance and a requirement for higher doses for effect.

None of these rules are new or previously unknown.

Defenders of the status quo are always stronger than reformers seeking change,
UNTIL the status quo self-destructs from its own corruption, and the reformers are free to build on its ashes.
