One of the more extraordinary books of the early 21st century is Lords of Finance: The Bankers who Broke the World (2009). It provides an insightful look at the origins of central banking, and how financial crises were handled and mishandled by the fledgling Fed and its European analogs in first part of the 20th century. The Pulitzer-winning author, Liaquat Ahamed, has joined Consuelo Mack on Wealthtrack this week (April 3, 2015, Ep. 1141). He offers opinions on central bank actions during the recent financial crisis and how they have differed from those of the prior century. Included are observations on the current situation in Greece, and how Draghi and the ECB might respond.

Lords of Finance... is one of only a few books I would recommend to friends. With that as a benchmark, I invite you to offer comparable suggestions for vacation (and beyond) reading.
