US history makes more sense when read as the elite using moral crusades as smokescreens for its wealth and power grabs and attacks on its enemies.

Prohibition

Global Warming

The Media/Academia/Finance ruling class use global warming to enrich themselves and punish their industrial producers enemies.

Vladimir Lenin insisted politics, defined broadly, was nothing more than a struggle for power, or as he memorably put it, “who, whom,” Lenin’s shorthand for “Who does what to whom?”

You don’t have to be a Marxist-Leninist to concede that Lenin had a point. Self and tribe matter.

But before giving up, let’s remember that Lenin was a tad dogmatic. People want power, yes. But they value other things too. And that can make all the difference.

Scientists agree: CORRUPTION CHANGE is real. CORRUPTION CRISIS will doom us.
But it's OK; it's "noble-cause corruption"

LA TIMES FRONT MONDAY: Gov. Brown blamed 'climate change' for California's wildfires.
Scientists don't agree...

Scientists who study climate change and fire behavior say their work does not show a link between this year's wildfires and global warming, or support Brown's assertion that fires are now unpredictable and unprecedented.
Pielke said it is easier to make a political case for change using immediate and local threats, rather than those on a global scale, especially given the subtleties of
climate change research, which features probabilities subject to wide margins of error and contradiction by other findings.

"That is the nature of politics," Pielke said, "but sometimes the science really has to matter."

Even climate ecologists who describe a strong tie between fire frequency and weather say they cannot attribute that connection to phenomena beyond normal, multi-decade variations seen throughout California history.

Today's forest fires are indeed larger than those of the past, said National Park Service climate change scientist Patrick Gonzalez. At a symposium sponsored by Brown's administration, Gonzalez presented research attributing that trend to policies of fighting the fires, which create thick underlayers of growth, rather than allowing them to burn.

"We are living right now with a legacy of unnatural fire suppression of approximately a century," Gonzalez told attendees.

"One hundred years of fire suppression is building fuel beds," Tunnell said. "Almost any year can produce a fire like this one."

French Mathematical Calculation Society: Global Warming Crusade is absurd and pointless

Mathematicians do not believe in crusades; they look at facts, figures, observations and arguments.

Chapter 3: The crusade is pointless

If we in France were to stop all industrial activity (let‘s not talk about our intellectual activity, which ceased long ago), if we were to eradicate all trace of animal life, the composition of the atmosphere would not alter in any measurable, perceptible way.

This just goes to show the truth of the matter: we are fighting for a cause (reducing CO2 emissions) that serves absolutely no purpose, in which we alone believe, and which we can do nothing about. You would probably have to go quite a long way back in human history to find such a mad obsession.

Freeman Dyson is one of the world’s most eminent theoretical physicists

My view of the prevalence of doom-and-gloom in Cambridge is that it is a result of the English class system.

In England there were always two sharply opposed middle classes, the academic middle class and the commercial middle class. In the nineteenth century, the academic middle class won the battle for power and status.

As a child of the academic middle class, I learned to look on the commercial middle class with loathing and contempt. Then came the triumph of Margaret Thatcher, which was also the revenge of the commercial middle class. The academics lost their power and prestige and the business people took over. The academics never forgave Thatcher and have been gloomy ever since.

and then there is the reality of security fraud -

Exxon Mobil Gets Subpoena From N.Y. Regarding Climate-Change Research
Attorney General Schneiderman seeks information about research and response to climate change

...The probe is focused on potential consumer and securities fraud stemming from Exxon’s public statements on global warming....

Even with Koch Bro funding and led by a skeptic (Muller), the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) project wasn't able to bring around the worst of the denier morons (and even today, some of the slightly cogent skeptics still fall back on weather reporting).

It will now be interesting to see if some enormous security fraud penalty on a stock that any self-respecting denier has to own can get them to at least take a peak outside of their echo chamber. If you think it will make a difference, you don't understand the amygdala-dominated. :swoon:

If the world didn't suck, wouldn't we all just fly off?

and some insight that will cause the amygdala-dominated heads to explode -

Carbon Bubble End Game: TBTF Redux

It's highly likely that fossil fuel companies like ExxonMobil will not be allowed, either by the free market or government fiat, to extract all of their reserves in the ground. That means the Carbon Bubble will be popped, sooner or later, and asset prices of fossil fuel companies have a strong future downtrend to contend with.

Since Exxon has done the most research on the subject of Climate Change by their own admission, you would think they had a plan: the handwriting is on the wall. So far, the only part of the plan we've seen them implement is funding climate change deniers. That hasn't worked, obviously. What exactly is their plan?

Rex Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil, appeared on Fox Business yesterday, but gave no hint that he even understood the basics of the changes that are already in the pipeline. When asked about the effect of self-driving cars, he answered that it would increase the demand for gasoline because more cars would be sold. That answer shows that he hasn't thought the process through at all. When driverless cars are sold, they are most likely going to be electric cars, not gas-guzzlers, and that will reduce demand for internal combustion cars.

Electric cars have so many advantages over fossil fuel cars that the economics of electrics will trounce fossil fuels. They have far fewer moving parts, they will be much more economical to operate and batteries will drop sharply in the near future. That means driverless cars will be cheaper to own and operate than fossil fuel cars.

This one point reveals that the head of ExxonMobil has no plans on how to deal with the bursting of the Carbon Bubble. If you had to make out a list of the Too Big To Fail companies, ExxonMobil would surely be near the top of the list. That means that when ExxonMobil goes down in flames, it will be the taxpayers who are called on to bail them out of their misery. Just like General Motors in 2008 in fact. That's not only a shame, it's a disgrace for the public, which have been misled and lied to by the fossil fuel companies for several decades.

The world is simply passing the deniers by.

The "world" is being misled by the government taxing machine.

Is "real science" ever afraid of the light of truth? Somebody is at NOAA!

NOAA 'WARMING' WAR HEATS UP...
Lawmaker Claims Data Altered...

“It was inconvenient for this administration that climate data has clearly showed no warming for the past two decades,” Smith said in a statement. “The American people have every right to be suspicious when NOAA alters data to get the politically correct results they want and then refuses to reveal how those decisions were made. NOAA needs to come clean about why they altered the data to get the results they needed to advance this administration’s extreme climate change agenda. The agency has yet to identify any legal basis for withholding these documents. The committee intends to use all tools at its disposal to undertake its constitutionally-mandated oversight responsibilities.”

Paris Summit is Green Ideology, Not Science

Greens make moral judgements about how we should deal with the world, the climate in particular. They have every right to do this, but science is not about moral judgements, it is about facts. It is not about what ought to be the case, it is about what is the case.

Ideologies (including religions) are the means by which human moral progress is facilitated, the means by which great numbers of people organise themselves to make the world a better place: to convert the heathen, to free the slave, to save the Planet. The problem is, ideologies are static. It is almost impossible to change an ideology once it is established. People who try to do so are often denigrated as ‘heretics’, ‘recidivists’ and so on.

Environmentalism is no exception.

In the field of climate science, because of its ideological character, new discoveries likely to challenge the accepted narrative are lucky to see the light of day.

More on the analogy between Prohibition and Global Warming:

Prohibition lasted about 12 years and collapsed with the Ruling Class in the early 1930's.

Al Gore's movie came out in 2006, add 12 years and you get 2018.

Global Warming and the Ruling Class are headed for the dustbin of history, and soon.
