Yes, i am a mechanical trader. As for "b)", you are right. But the solution is not selecting the trades, but to cut down on position size. If you have a well designed system, it would by definition already be selecting the best trades.
Thx NAV - and yep, understood on the position size/risk control...
So one 'discretion' I apply - certain market conditions I worn' trade - OPEX, 30min pre-post FED ...and anytime I get 2 consecutive whipsaws.
Horrible but typical OPEX whipsaw for ST traders this week... I never trade wed-fri of OPEX...learned that the hard way many years ago..doesn't suit my system.
I think of it like golf - I have a certain 'golf technique' and that doesn't suit 'windy conditions' such as OPEX lets say - I stick to fair weather...
so matter of identify certain context - can be time ( OPEX, FED) or price ( ranges versus trend) etc
