There was an interesting inverse correlation there until recently. FWIW, I think KR is to be accumulated into next quarter's earnings report. JMHO.

I quit shopping with them, their "sales" they putting on have turned to empty...
Stuff I don't buy, and the stuff I do buy I can get cheaper elsewhere...
I monitor their ads every week, their margins may improve, but their revenues are going to take a hit.

Fundamentals don't mean diddly to me, but I'd guess the current stock action is more in anticipation of the stomping down the road than the current stroll.
"If you've heard this story before, don't stop me because I'd like to hear it again," Groucho Marx (on market history?).
“I've learned in options trading simple is best and the obvious is often the most elusive to recognize.”
"The god of trading rewards persistence, experience and discipline, and absolutely nothing else."

This is a no brainer. They will take every charge they can while they have cover of bad news. That ought to take the stock down (we'll see). Then the next comparisons will look good. These guys have been in the grocery business for a long time and they are pretty good at what they do. They will surprise, while AMZN will screw up.

I worked for Kroger, Safeway, Lucky Stores while I was in high school and college. I did every job in the grocery store except cut meat... So I know this space. Kroger is shooting themselves in the foot...
AMZN is probably going to 1500 at this rate, it's not even a fair contest between these 2 stocks...
I learned the meat business after college as a headhunter...

I have worked for Kroger( around for 134 yrs) and Publix (around for 87 yrs!!)!
This will be AMZN waterloo , tight profit margins Ill be buying all PUSH I can get in Nov17 after the euphoria for Amzn lets up( wife still works @ Publix)
Publix tracks Kr stock usually half of what it does so it should be down 12 % this aug17 be all in @ Nov 17 evaluation

IMHO kR will go lower into oct 17 maybe mid teens , there is huge support in that area

This is MO guys behind this FANG trade, these events all end the same way, but not until they stretch it completely out of proportion...
They will reach a point, where it's sick, everyone realizes it's sick, and anyone who doesn't get out, is going to be very sick...

To clarify, I wouldn't short AMZN. I am unsure what negative effect getting into the grocery business will have on their bottom line anyway, nor how long it would take to discover that it was!
