It's been a quiet few weeks for me.  Last week I bought a little SDS, sold it on Friday.  I bought a little XLF figuring the banks over-corrected.  It we can get up over the little double top at 2740 (chart above), I'll buy some more.  The next barrier to me is the top of the trading range at 2800.

This week I added some KRE, SPY, and QQQ.  I took profit in QQQ today, the FANG stocks have had quite a run up and they may need a breather.  I have a lot of powder dry.

I moved in moderately on Friday.  If Monday looks good, I'll continue to buy in as earnings start to come in.  Projections are for earnings to be up 18% yoy.  Companies are getting cash from the tax cuts and most of it will go to stock buybacks, a few dividends, and an acquisition or 2.  Biggest risk is trade war threats, or slowing in Europe that backs up into the US.  Japan just had a rare (lately) negative GDP quarter.  There are some risks, including rising rates, but the next hike won't be before Sept.

I did buy a second big chunk last week, so I'm over half invested.  Big banks start reporting Friday.

Sold half today.  We rallied up to resistance which is the top of the trading range we've been in since late Jan.  Russell 2000 near overbought.  New trade threats out there.

I was a seller today, essentially flat for now.  It's disappointing to me that with excellent earnings the market can't make more progress.  Earnings reports continue for a couple of weeks, but after that, I'm not optimistic.  The market is not overbought, but it is in high-neutral territory looking at a year of daily data.

I did a little buying yesterday.  The good news is that it looks like we've broken out above the trading range we've been in since late Jan.  The bad news is that we are nearly overbought so I don't want to make a big commitment to the market right now.  The House is on recess, so they can't deliver much bad news for a couple of weeks (that's good).  If the market holds up, I'll buy in slowly, but not commit too much to this.  At some point, I'll look at SDS.

I took some profit in FB, sold the other little piece I bought this week.  I'm very flat right now.  I picked up a tiny piece of VXX in case.

Last week I did some buying.  The week before I did a stupid good luck trade on Canopy Growth, bought at 26 when it went down a couple of points when they issued more shares, sold in extended hours trading the next morning when Constellation Brands increased their stake in CGC to 38%, at 36.  The only skill is I like the cannabis space, ground floor opportunity and I buy it on pullbacks.  Canada goes legal on recreational pot on Oct. 1, creating mania.  I see CGC went to 42, but it loses money currently so I hope to buy it back later, when some of the mania dies down.  Maybe after the next earnings report.  I also got lucky on the pop in BABA, sold in the extended hours at 186, bought back lower.  I don't normally trade so quickly like that, but it worked well for me.

I've been adding to SPY.  We could be at a double top, but I like the action here.  It's not overbought short term, no frenzy going on, plenty of fear over tariff wars but the market inches up.  We have 2 more quarters of excellent comps on the tax cut front.  To me, the odds favor more progress rather than any significant correction here.  Mueller should be quiet until the midterms, eliminating a nasty surprise there, I think.

I wrote a longer piece today on my blog (see link below) on the value of the dollar and the impact that the deficit can have on the bond market, and hence the economy.  It's in the "Geo Politics" section, just thought I'd mention it.
