Nav - NYU charges 72K/yr for dental school and the kids have to make money for the school in the clinic - this bill may bring tuition back to earth - OTOH it may continue giving away the edge in higher education jobs to immigrants who get subsidized education overseas - dont know.... but US Universities are priced way out of range for most people ... and it seems to be an industry that tries to bring foreign dollars to the US - so few native students can afford the fees.

We are the only industrial nation that does not have free health care and education. So are we the leaders of the world or behind the curve?

Nav - NYU charges 72K/yr for dental school and the kids have to make money for the school in the clinic - this bill may bring tuition back to earth - OTOH it may continue giving away the edge in higher education jobs to immigrants who get subsidized education overseas - dont know.... but US Universities are priced way out of range for most people ... and it seems to be an industry that tries to bring foreign dollars to the US - so few native students can afford the fees.

How does taxing the already overburdened students help bring the tuition back to earth ? Can you explain ?

Look, the biggest folly of west in the 20th century was pushing for globalization. This despite knowing that there are close to 3.5 billion (chinese + Indians) who are going to compete with them in the free world. laugh.png

There's so much money sloshing in China and India that these students will fill the U.S universities no matter how large the tuition fees is. That's a given and you cannot change that. Now the real question is how do you help the U.S students in this scenario ? Taxing them to death is not going to help.

How did china outsmart the U.S (and the rest of the world)? By subsidizing their manufacturing. Woudn't you do the same for your students ? How come our smart man from Wharton doesn't understand this ? Oh wait, he is worried only about his family and his estate.

Our smart man taxes instead of subsidizing. That's a double whammy !

Canadian students fees for Universities pay pn average $7000 a semester for tuition and foreigners about $17,000.  The actual cost is generally around $20,000 per student so is subsidized quite a bit but not free.  Should be though!!

The "Make America Dumb Again!" part...that started in 1980 and has now trickled down to a full-blown mission accomplished.

Globalization in the west was for the businesses in the west - not for the workers - so far the businesses have benefited - see - one can pass laws - the govt gives lots of subsidies to universities - it can demand things in return - it can demand low tuition for US students - the CUNY was a very good university and cost nothing in fees - but now that they are required to take everyone they charge fees - lower than many and most of the kids are not US native.

education and health care are very big political areas...
