Yeah I saw that a few hours ago.  Did he succeed financially from his trading/work?

I'm very sorry to hear this. His work was the basis for my first proprietary indicator, way back in 1993-ish. His ARMS indicator is still a golden bottom-spotter. :(

While his passing is sad, his contribution to TA lives on and is appreciated.

Don't know if Arms himself profited from his work (probably did) but many others certainly have.  IYB, who used to be here and is now on Twitter, uses $TRIN and $TRINQ,  as two of the indicators in his "Seven Sentinels" trading system. IYB's charts still update in the Investors University forum.  He has more than 27,000 followers on Twitter.

Yes, Arms contribution to TA will go on...a fine legacy.

Twitter is a con game  "You follow me, i follow you". IYB once had 27000 followers and followed 27000 people. How the F^*k can anybody follow 27000 people ? Jesus Christ ! And once you get enough following, you start dumping your followers. It almost sounds like the spring break parties where the guys don't even know how many chicks they slept with. Nobody gives a darn who they follow and who they are being followed by. It's basically a click fraud. It's a sign of a degenerate, narcissist society. One of my friend is a social media scientist. He said, in one of his experiments, he got 1000 followers in a week, by just following a bunch of Bozos who he did not even know or did not care. There is no trust. Everyone is following each other in the hope of getting more followers to feed their narcissist cravings (or marketing needs) and dump them as soon as their "following" count goes high. "Followers" is a meaningless metric.

I even see a lot of porn stars following stock analysts. Why ? I would have believed if it was the other way around.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO CONTRIBUTION TO TA ON TWITTER. YOU CANNOT DISCUSS ANY MEANINGFUL TA IN 280 CHARACTERS.

I take it you don't think much of the place.  biggrin.png

As for the stock analysts and the porn stars, I am absolutely positive that is a mutual admiration society.

P.S.

I was talking to one of my kids the other day about social media, since as a millennial he knows tons more about these things than I do.  I asked about IYB's 27K-plus followers.  Out of that many, could 1,000 be actually subscribers?  He said by social media statistics that is possible but probably less. Possible...hmm?  Last I checked (a couple of minutes ago), for a subscription IYB was charging $75...a month.  headspin.gif

So your kid is a data mining expert eh ? (without having access to the data).

Anyway, i think you got my point. This thread was about an analyst who's contribution to the TA world is huge. Let's not compare that to some twitter guru's following. It's not the same, monetary aspects aside.

BTW, this guy has 75k followers - supposed to be a market wizard featured in Jack Shwager. He has lent his name to sell women's underwear, losing belly fat, Pen#s enlargement and what have you !. What an abomination ! This is what twitter is all about.
