Where is a good place to park cash when not in stocks?

Also consider laddering CD's through your broker.  I use Schwab and Merrill Lynch and they both offer brokered CD's.  If you spread your cash among 4 separate CD's, 3 months apart up to 12 months you'll lock in a nice yield.  Pure point though is my preferred high yield online savings account.

I parked lot of my cash in oil stocks back when  oil was in $30 neighborhood. It was such obvious situation. Not only I am getting much better yield than 1.5% CD's, there has been substantial capital gains as well. Will not liquidate unless oil jumps near $100/barrel.

 

But that was many moons ago. Right now I favor REITS and Pharma in dribs and drabs. Overall, I am in the camp "sell in May and go away on a long vacation".. 

 

I seldom worry about small yield on parked cash. Because cash is a hedge against big drops.
