You know those recaps that begin each new episode of TV shows with words like “Previously on Mad Men…Previously on Shameless…” or most appropriately in this case “Previously on Breaking Bad”?

For a year I’ve been watching for the end of this bull bubble and chronicled its slow rollover in the links in this link so let’s call this recap “Previously on Margin Debt”:

PREVIOUSLY AND NOW ON MARGIN DEBT

"If you've heard this story before, don't stop me because I'd like to hear it again," Groucho Marx (on market history?).

“I've learned in options trading simple is best and the obvious is often the most elusive to recognize.”

"The god of trading rewards persistence, experience and discipline, and absolutely nothing else."

The European Central Bank essentially used up its entire month of asset purchases in the last week.  They have 1.6 billion euros left for the rest of the month.

Question, if you use margin debt to buy the SDS vs. your long-term positions, does margin debt mean what it did in the past?

Exactly, Rydex ratios, Proshares outstanding share moves, and Direxion data, have very little predictive insight like Rydex ratios did from the year 2000 thru 2003 or so.  Proshares started in 2006, and Direxion soon after.  Margin debt just following the computers like everything else.  3 option expires per week keep the action swift.  The unexpected Wed day off is the only reason things got out of hand today.  time to square/rebalance is more important than it has ever been.  Ho Ho Ho, merry Xmas.
