High fructose corn syrup should also be avoided . What is even more disturbing is trying to find food that dies not have it as an ingredient. Bread, condiments, almost all commercial baked goods, canned goods, and soda. I would love to see a time line of diabetes in the US compared to a time line of this food additive having been increased in the US diet . If people really knew how much sugar and sodium they were consuming ,they would be shocked !!

Yeah, this a real problem and I think big money lobbyists are the reason.
Just think how many hospitals and pharma's would go bankrupt if these
ingredients were banned, and the snack food industry too, nabs will go bad
in a week made with lard or regular oil that turns rancid faster, and probably
cost more to make using healthy oils. But if Europe can ban them(see sublinks)
then why can't the USA ?
I'd even be willing to pay more for baked chiken or fries at fast food places
instead of fried, either you pay now or later.
I recently started buying bread sweetened with honey, Pepperidge Farm
honey wheat.
If I have to, I try to buy foods sweetened with either sugar or plain
corn syrup, not the high fructose stuff.

Yanno, guys, you might be amazed at this but I think we get very little HFCS in our diet. If course, we don't drink sodas, we don't drink bottled fruit juices, we don't eat candy or prepreared food items. We don't eat bread unless it's pita or artisnal (no hfcs there) and we don't eat desserts, or when we do, it's a high cocoa semi-sweet chocolate. It's easy if you think about what you WANT to eat and then plan it. We buy for the week based upon a menu. It works. Mark

hey, Mark....sounds like you already have your bread preferences, but I will mention this anyway which is available usually in the frozen case: sprouted ezekiel bread - made from the crushed sprouts of grain, and not made from flour.

You know, I'm so fortunate to have learned about this over 20 yrs ago. I have no issues in finding food without high fructose corn syrup or all the -ates associated with artificial chemical food preservation . Of course, I don't eat commercially baked goods, the only canned goods in my cabinets are cat food. And I don't do sodas, I drink fruit juice/mineral water combos that I mix with fresh juice and bottled mineral water, not a real sweet drink but quite refreshing... As far as condiments, I've learned to make my own salad dressings using soy sauce, seasoned rice wine vinegar, sesame oil and Ex Virgin Olive oil. Quit using BBQ sauce and ketchup and got into mixing spices and making rubs.

If you want to steer clear of the bad stuff, just make your food from scratch. You can also get condiments sweetened with sugar instead of corn syrup at the health food store. Once you get used to eating real food again instead of these chemically inspired preparations from the merchants of globalization... you won't go back to eating junk again. It just won't do it for you...

Hey Hiker ... that's the only kind of bread I eat. I also love their sprouted grain tortillas for lunch wraps too.

Here was my lunch: Turkey breast, with a bunch of brocolli sprouts, dark lettuce, 1/2 an avocado, sundried tomatoes (packed in olive oil), bit of Braggs amino .... all wrapped up in an Ezekiel tortilla.

Absolutely delicious! ... and nutritious.

C.C. :D

YES SB ... REAL food ... that is the key! (I personally avoid vinegar, but if it works for you ... go for it)

Dood!

I'll keep my eye out for that. Sounds interesting.
