It is not the doing that is difficult, but the knowing

I would advise suggesting that patients who are so inclined should SUBSTITUTE a high cocoa chocolate in moderation for other, higher fat, higher carbohydrate desserts.
That way, you lower the calories and improve the palate. Maybe there's research money in it for you too.
I can tell you that I like serving modest chunks of good "bittersweet" chocolate (not milk chocolate) as a dessert and I think it's a much better altnative to many of the typical desserts that folks typically over do. For some reason, I maintain better control with chocolate. I know I feel better with that vs. anything except good funky cheese and a pear.

I am surprised to see an article like that.
My wife and I buy chocolate bars that are 85% cocoa.
I use these for apetite manageent. One section (about 1 sqr. in.) with a cup of coffee 1/2 hour before eating works real well. It is good to know there may be more health benefits.

Once upon a time I had a girlfriend in Switzerland who said her grandfather ate two pieces of Toblerone chocolate before bedtime almost every day of his life. The old boy was about 100 years old and still going strong.
Like so much stuff within the American life-style and dietary issues, I see "our" error as just getting way too much, period, or way too much bad stuff. It's relatively unusual for us to have the primary problem be any great lack.
