I got an email this morning (see below) suggesting that my "relative" in Brussels had died. My only relative there is my beloved brother ... and even though I was suspicious of this email, I spent an agonizing hour trying to locate my brother and talk to him on the phone ... to make sure he was okay. I have no idea what this is about ... obviously a scam ... perhaps an attempt at identity theft. Who knows, but I couldn't imagine how they knew about my brother in Brussels and my initial reaction was to assume the worst. This wasn't fun folks ... don't fall for it.

My Dear,

My name is Timothy Gardner. I work with the Guildhall Consultant
Chambers in the United Kingdom. We are conducting a standard process
investigation involving a client who shares the same name with you and
also the circumstances surrounding investments made by this client at
HSBC Bank Plc. The HSBC Private Banking client died interstate and
nominated no next of kin to inherit the title over the investments
made with HSBC Bank Plc. The essence of this communication with you is
to request that you provide us information on three issues:

1-Are you aware of any relative/relation having the same surname,
whose last known contact address was Brussels Belgium?

2-Are you aware of any investment of considerable value made by such a
person at the HSBC Bank Plc.?

3-Can you establish beyond reasonable doubt your eligibility to assume
status of next of kin to the deceased?

It is pertinent that you inform us ASAP whether or not you are
familiar with this personality that we may put an end to this
communication with you and our inquiries surrounding this personality.
You must appreciate that we are constrained from providing you with
more detailed information at this point.

PLEASE RESPOND BACK TO MY PRIVATE AND SECURE EMAIL ADDRESS;
timgardner@unionplus.net as soon as possible to afford us the
opportunity to conclude and close this investigation.

Thank you for accommodating our enquiry.

Yours sincerely,
Mr. Timothy Gardner

The only way to fight spam mail is with spam mail. Go to a bunch of irreputable websites, and sign up with that guy's email address.

Cool, and at the point they ask you for bank account numbers or a 'fee' to help you recover all the money you supposedly have coming to you.....that's when the take it from your pocket and put it into there's. I hear about these scams but I'm pretty tight with my email address and never have the honor of being hit up on one of them. Never give anything to anyone on the internet that you didn't initiate. And be careful with whom you initiate as action. Cyber crime is like any crime. I have a comcast account and from time to time I just go in and change my email address, when spammers get it, I dump it and thus lose the spammers.

"died interstate..." Must be very painful. The correct term for dying without leaving a will is intestate.
