I'm the wrong guy to ask about this stuff. I'm from the old fart school of medicine....and have defended my profession many times here: If something is valid, we add it. Not to say that some things are or are not "good" for you... but personally and professionally here's the bottom line: eat good, wholesome food. Minimize animal products. Exercise regularly. Don't smoke. Be kind. Laugh a lot. Live a well balanced life. I have yet to see ANYTHING else that can be ADDED into our systems that will defy our genetic destiny to grow old and die. (i am not referring to well-tested drugs for specific medical conditions). I have yet to see ANYTHING else that can be ADDED into our systems that will prevent illness along the way. Ever notice who is selling and/or hawking all these vitamins, herbs, oils and "systems"? The only MD doctors are self-promoters. The rest.... well, open your eyes and take a look. This results in the misperception that we doctors, who regulary do NOT promote all this stuff, are "out of touch" or "against" alternative ideas. Maybe there's another way to look at this? mm

Tom can get fresh ocean-caught salmon here in the Bay Area. Remember the farm-raised fish are fed on pellets so they don't have any Omega 3 content. There's nothing better than fresh sources of these important nutritionial components... Farmed raised salmon is quite bad for you in fact. In addition to the lack of the important Omega 3 oils, the fish have been found to have a high PCB content, are painted with red dyes before being displayed, and even more importantly this, that it takes 5 lbs of fresh fish to produce just one pound of feed-pellets. I strongly suggest that farmed salmon be completely avoided, you should ask before ordering salmon at a restaurant whether it is wild salmon or farmed. The farmed salmon may be cheaper, but it is cheaper for a reason...because it's a ripoff...

absolutely MM just gotta read all you can and let logic prevail...apologize for past gripes..you rep the profession well w/your understanding. FYI I live in Houston, fattest city in , 2 yrs running and travel to 4 other cities in TX that round out top 10 in nation. One of the highest childhood asthma, obesity, in country....I see it getting worse by the day.....I tend to blame the med industry and everyone in it..

You guys up north haven't experienced the decay we've had down here in certain areas..I'd like to see a document correlating lower intelligence levels with obesity.
