Thursday's high was about 65F.
Then it began Friday before noon as sleet. Then came the freezing rain.
Now I have at least 3" of ice on my patio table outside and MORE is coming.
It will not get much above freezing for the next week.
Wednesday's low is forecast at 8F degrees as the cloud cover leaves us.
Lots of water pipes will break.
The bus service is closed, the airport is basically closed.
I have power & Cable. But only one can of beer left.
Things are getting desperate.
As W.C. Fields said:
"Once, while in the wilds of Africa, we lost our only corkscrew and were forced to subsist on food and water for several days."
Then more white stuff is scheduled for next week-end.
Sublimation is our only hope.

Ice storm can't stop Chili Bowl

It is the biggest annual sports event in the city, generating about $12 million in economic impact for Tulsa.
There's not a seat available anywhere in the building and hasn't been for years.
And that simple fact, nothing stops this show, may be the secret to the success of the Chili Bowl, which concluded its 21st year at the Expo Center on Saturday night.
It was cold, ugly and the city was being brought to a halt by the weather on Saturday. No problem. The Chili Bowl went on as scheduled.
TULSA, Okla. (January 13, 2007) – Two-time NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart added another Golden Driller trophy to his collection as he raced to victory lane in Saturday night's 50-lap O'Reilly Chili Bowl Nationals championship feature event. Chilibowl.com

There were a dozen roll-over wrecks last night and that was just in the parking lot! LOL!

Amazing picture - the one of the trees that is. Sure is pretty. :) Of course I say that cause we haven't seen a flake of snow all winter. Rumor has it our turn is coming but it's not here yet. So, I think that picture is beautiful still.

I think the AP picture is from Springfield Mo.
They also got freezing rain really bad just south of Tulsa.
The freezing rain does much more damage to the trees and power lines.
The ice covers several states.
Then there is flooding in central Arkansas heading to Memphis.
Watch out UFO!
A mini-van full of illegals hit a semi head-on last night near OKC.
Thousands of people are without electricity largly from the falling tree branches.
This is very bad for many people.
Tulsa has an agressive tree trimming policy which seems to help and where I live, the power lines are buried.

I'm just hoping the moles and gophers become popcicles.
Or at least their food source, gurbs, freeze.
They have really become obnoxious lately.

Most folks around here use natural gas or total electric for heat. 90,000 Okies don't have any electric.

I saw that, BB -- and they've gotten pretty well long Crude Oil and have really cut back on their short NG positions. Interesting to watch what happens.

I've only seen one ice storm. It was stunning. Never saw anything like it before. (I'm from SF - now on the east coast) Scary to think of that many people without power in that kind of cold though. Hope it gets back up and working soon. Sounds dangerous.

It is beautiful this morning for those of us with the power on as the sun is out and I see a bit of melting even at 25F degrees. Down to 4 degrees tonight. The most dangerous thing is Cabin Fever. I ventured out last night for a newspaper and a few groceries. Driving was easy since few were out. The snow plows are of limited value in ice & sleet and in some places they had piled up 3 foot glaciers right in the road! This morning was a different story. There are several roll overs reported and 5 out o 6 accidents are hit & runs. We recently increased our medical & uninsured motorists insurance to the max. But I'm staying in and have tied up my wife.
