Tax Rebate from Spanish-American War!

IRS Wants to Hook You Up
With a Refund For
Phone-Service Excise Taxes

This tax has been charged since 1869!
But you can only get back 3 years worth! LOL!

The refund is limited to taxes billed from Feb. 28, 2003, to Aug. 1, 2006. The IRS says the statute of limitations bars it from refunding taxes that were paid more than three years before the refund program was announced. The IRS expects to pay $13 billion in refunds.

Standard vs. Actual

Taxpayers who claim the refund have a choice: They can use either the actual sum of long-distance excise taxes they paid during the period or the standard amounts provided by the IRS. The IRS based the standard refund amounts on the phone usage data for average families and households.

The refunds range from $30 to $60, depending on the number of exemptions you claim on your tax return.
