This is F'n out of control. First they blamed oil going up on the speculators. Then the stock market goes down and they blame it on the short sellers. This is an outrage. Is my avatar against the law 2?

I'm panicking because it eliminates the floor from the market.

When folks legitimately short, they are a guaranteed buyers--at a time when not regular buyers are going to find the nerve to do so.

Sheer idiocy.

And yes, I believe it will cause a real, true and lasting crash. If they do it.

You can call me crazy, but it's clear there's a plan being executed. And I do not like it. It's very likely there is some REAL BAD NEWS about to come down, and they don't want anyone short.

They are not stupid.

cgnx, you obviously don't understand how put options work. Do you think the option market makers live on an island and can just sell you put and call options to your heart's content? They have to hedge their option positions with the underlying stock. If they can't short the stock, you ain't gonna be buying no put options. That market will totally die with the "no shorts" decree. They can hedge it with other options. Premiums would probably be out of whack though.

I wouldn't. That crossed my mind too. Even as bad as I think things are still going to get, you have to wonder what kind of panic and desperation would prompt this outrageous a move. It's very scary.

ogm...you also need to do a little research on option market makers. Your last reply was ignorant. U.F.O.
