300 Dead in Record European Cold

Now in its third week, a European cold snap has claimed more than 300 lives and sent hundreds more to hospitals, the Telegraph and BBC report. Some temperatures have plunged as low as -40 Fahrenheit. Ukraine still has it worst with 131 officially dead—most of them homeless—and 1,800 hospitalized, but Poland saw eight more die overnight to bring its death toll to 53. In eastern Bosnia, rescue helicopters are dropping food to the needy while Sarajevo, paralyzed by snow, has declared a state of emergency.

The cold has even licked North Africa, where 16 Algerians are reported dead on snowy roads and in other weather-related incidents. At least four have died in France, while snowed-in Rome is sheeted in black ice. "It's awful," said one Rome resident.

and they're worried about warming...

Once you adjust warming is no big problem. Cold? THAT'S a problem.

QUOTE (Rogerdodger @ Feb 13 2012, 09:33 PM) *

Posted 2 years ago:

Historically, low solar activity has been connected to cold winters in Europe. A definitive physical mechanism for this fact has not yet been presented. This analysis however shows that the influence of solar activity together with stratospheric mechanisms acting on the Arctic Oscillation is statistically significant

BRACE yourself for more winters like the last one, northern Europe. Freezing conditions could become more likely: winter temperatures may even plummet to depths last seen at the end of the 17th century, a time known as the Little Ice Age. That's the message from a new study that identifies a compelling link between solar activity and winter temperatures in northern Europe.

True believers will never abandon the faith!

Now they blame colder temperatures on...GLOBAL WARMING!!! laugh.gif

Science behind the big freeze: is climate change bringing the Arctic to Europe?

"The current weather pattern fits earlier predictions of computer models for how the atmosphere responds to the loss of sea ice due to global warming," said Professor Stefan Rahmstorf of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research.

EDIT: I forgot that they had to change "Global Warming" to "Climate Change".

Temperatures are currently 0.4 degrees colder for the date than any other year in the past decade. Temperatures have dropped almost a full degree since 2010.

Joe Bastardi has been telling us for several years that we were headed for a huge dive in temperatures. It is here.

Joe Bastardi Nailed It:

Most of us know where this is going overall the next 20-30 years. N America has been the warm heart of a cooling planet. For the record, I expect a weak to perhaps moderate el nino to evolve this summer into winter, and while that will push global temps up a bit, double la ninas followed by el ninos with a cold PDO means the break we had this year in N America is not likely to repeat next year. Europe is likely to have another severe stretch, which would make it 4 winters in a row year to deal with a cold extreme.

Steven Goddard says:

We have gone 20 years without a big volcanic eruption, we are near solar max, and ENSO is neutral. They have got to realize that their scam is at a tipping point.
