Every year or so I walk around our neighborhood with my boys selling Boy Scout popcorn. This year it seems my neighbors are having a very tough time financially. Many that have bought in previous years are cutting back on the number of containers being bought or not buying at all. Also, a lot more are home and are not even coming to the door..... This just goes to show how many people are having a tough time, even with the stock market rallying...

my sons are in scouts. we actually saw a fairly big drop off last year. then worse this year even in the well to do neighborhoods where many clear $150 k easy for income.Every year or so I walk around our neighborhood with my boys selling Boy Scout popcorn. sign of the times. maybe people are penny pinching so they can afford mor xmas gifts ?
one place that is not lacking in custmoers is the apple store. i wonder how much more disposable income folks would have without the 5 person family cell phones, ipods, gps's, cable, dish, plazma's etc that they've become addicted to ?
we have only two cells we pay for- cost $90/month. sure we could go cheaper, but that's not nearly the most expensive plans or minutes out there. but my income is significantly north of $150k too. i feel like the cell service, plus cable, internet, land line we get for another $100, is a lot of wasted money too. Thats $200/mo in total for comunications and media we never had to pay prior to 1993. $2400 per year. In 1983 you could buy a pretty nice car for that. Now it takes 6 years to pay off a car at $300/month.
Not buying that popcorn is not saving them much, and its hurting a very worthwhile activity called Scouting where kids learn to be leaders and make better decisions. Too bad those folks didn't cut back on other less essential activities and reserved $15 once a year for the popcorn so these kids could afford to engage in some life teaching skill activities. (Those same people probably just spent $15 on candy for their kids, not including the big stash they will buy for halloween)

I live in a small house, but am up to date with technology... I see people in larger houses having more problems, but it is spotty... Many of them are living above there means.... My house is paid for, other than the kitchen remodel we did this year.... Have to make to market work for us... Otherwise I will never have the choice to retire.... I think my job is pretty safe. My company is in the cell phone handset business... As long as cell phones are built we should be doing okay...
