This year I am trying to think what will spur Christmas sales this year..... Usually video game consoles are popular, but there haven't been any new ones for 3 years. The Smartphone market is another area that will be robust, but many people already have smart phones so the market is already 40% saturated. Windows 7 is here, so I do think there will be some new computer sales, but many homes are already running Vista, so there is not a real need for new hardware. HD televisions will be somewhat popular again, but I doubt it will beat last Christmas Sales.. We'll probably buy a Wii for our family... I assume I can find one this Christmas, since most homes with 3rd graders or higher already has one.... I just can't find a big driver this Christmas, so I think Christmas sales will be disappointing... Biggest gadget I see in the Apple Nano Ipod. Anybody else have any ideas? Barry

My 50 inch Plasma with 1080p, 120mhz, wireless, internet ready, top rated model, with no taxes, free shipping and a wireless matching blu ray player on sale from Amazon for a grand! I'm done. Should be here tomorrow in time for more Yankees kicking butt. Also, it will be great to watch all those direct to consumer drug ads in 50 inch hi def. (wink wink). As a matter of fact, during last night's 5 1/2 hour Yankees marathon game with LA I first switched to Geico, then I switched to Blackberry, but a short while later I switched to T-Mobile's new Google phone. Of course, "they" made me buy caseloads of Budweiser, even though I don't drink beer. I also bought a new Chevy, (several, I think) and leased a BMW. Then I switched to Fidelity to help with my retirement planning. While I was doing that "they" made me buy some Tacos from Taco Bell. I'm telling you, I'm wiped out from the advertisers MAKING ME BUY STUFF I DON"T WANT, but hey, I can't help it. Seriously, though, the WII is fun, but the better games are on PS3 or x-box. mm

i just want to get on your case - we like home made christmas presents - jams, sweaters, cutting boards, herbal infused olive oil/vinegar etc ... we do not like to be comerical. we have done this for years, so it will not effect what you are talking about, but it just tells you there is a part of the population that does not participate.
best,
klh

I agree, Dasein. Crafts from locals are good. QQQQ , perhaps you solve two problems by stuffing everybody's stockings with Cub Scout popcorn. :)

Not going to happen... We usually don't spend too much on Christmas presents. We buy each of our 3 boys one or two small gifts, and then a bigger gift for all three of them... For others we make Jams, Jellies, and perserves.. For others....we pick fruit in season, freeze it, and then make a few batches of jelly over the holidays...
