So Dominoes came out and admitted their pizza was THAT BAD ! I lived on Dominoes in the mid 80's in college, and you know what ? I LOVED IT. So what if its processed ? Everything in the world is PROCESSED. Now they FINALLY decide to go and change it and just dump a bunch of garlic in it, chintz you on the sauce and spread butter all over the crust. It will not be better and they will simply have to live with the tag line " We suk at making pizza." But they are still second largest after Pizza Hut. Their problem is though not that their pizza suks but that their prices are no lower than the HUT's. And so if people are going to buy a pizza on price, they can now get a decent frozen pizza at the store for far cheaper. Thats Dominoes real problem. And no marketing scheme, even naked transparency, will ever cure that. I mean the Bears admit they stunk up the joint at 7-9. We all know that. But admitting such doesn't make them a shoe in for the super bowl next year. It fact they have a better chance at the Toilet bowl. Which by the way is where you will end up (head first) after eating Dominoes Pizza. ;)

As we continue to enjoy the depression, Pizza Hut has any pizza, any size, any crust and any topping for $10. :D

Nothing beats a hot, cheap delivered pizza. Except my homemade ones, using fresh sourdough crust. Unreal. And easy. Best recipe is from Peter Reinhart, "The Bread Baker's Apprentice".... I just spruce it up with some of my sourdough... mm

PapaJohns has extra large Super Bowl Pizza for $11.99. They've been selling it all month and it will go on forever. We ate a lot of Za Hut in the past, cuz it was cheap, fast, hot, and half mile from house, but the papa johns was actually a refreshing change. Way too much sodium and salt in the Pizza Hut, but it goes down good with a brewski.

Of course here in Chicago, we have Gino's, Connies, Lou Malnattis, Giordano's, and the list goes on and on.

One thing we can all agree on, is Pizza is truly one of the primary food groups. ;) Isn't it ? :P

A good sourdough crust...mmmm....try EEOV, garlic, spinach, and half mozz/half smoked gouda. Simple. Addictive. Try it, MM. Even better if you can grill it over a wood fire, but pretty darned good on a stone in the oven.

Speaking of which... On the rare day that I'm simply too tired to cook, I'll order a PapaJohn's and while I'm waiting, pre-heat my pizza stone to 500'. When the Za arrives, bump the temperature down to 350, put the Za on the stone, 7 minutes and 4 sips of wine later, you've got an amazingly tasty dinner (better with a simple romaine salad with a balsamic-parm dressing).

Another nice thing about making your own pizza dough is that its easy to make a batch of 6. Then you just refrigerate or freeze the extras. Takes a few minutes to warm them up and pop them onto the oven stone. I'll try your mix, but nix the gouda. Mozarrella, parmesan, romano for me. mm

It's an odd but very good taste combo. Smoked gouda seems to play well with spinach and sourdough. Don't ask me why, but it goes great with Moretti beer or a Gewurztraminer. Use to order it all the time at ZZ's Pizza when they were still open. Then I'd make it myself.

You can get a good DiGiorno's for $5-6 at Walmart. I stopped buying restaurant pizzas. I live in Atlanta so finding good pizza is a heroic quest.
