Cost of Living in US Hits Record High...
"A special index created by the Labor Department to measure the actual cost of living for Americans hit a record high in February, according to data released Thursday, surpassing the old high in July 2008.
This speaks to the need for the Fed to include food and energy when they look at inflation."

BUT...
"There will be no increase in Social Security benefits payable in January 2011, nor will there be an increase in SSI payments."

We senior folks need no stinking food and gasoline for our cars.
What a cruel joke on the seniors!

There are certain politicians who would rather get rid of Social Security altogether. While they don't have the power yet to close it down, they will do what they can to starve the beast.

The "actual cost of living" gauge has been perverted over the last couple of decades to make it easier to keep the benefit increases lower than the real rise in the cost of living.

We have known for 30 years or longer that these things are broken and have not had the national will to fix them. The baby boom coming into retirement has been no secret since it was born!
In the end we retain from our studies only that which we practically apply.

What we didn't really know was after Dr. Welby retired he would be replaced with high tech medicine that would extend retirement 10 years, that people would be much healthier and active in retirement, and that the cost of dying would routinely extend deep into six figures. The amount retirement has been underfunded pales in comparison to the costs of future healthcare.

The problem is that none of the state and local government workers (the biggest part of the work force) has been required to pay into social security - this has to stop - everyone must pay in first.
