I only know the only one i have ever used. Investor RT. www.linnsoft.com. Not affliated but the reason i like it is i cannot code in TradeStation
style code (dont even know what to call it) but i can code in the "languange" Investor RT uses. I would at least take a look. You can create
a lot of custom indicators there which is another thing i like which i think may set it off from other programs.

Try Wilmott site, Quants have a range of things there. Be careful, I have one that I developed and documented; seems to work, but I am not able to say why. It is a "black box" in the full meaning of the term. When will it turn on me? Islander.

It largely depends on your programming skills/experience. The vast majority of your development time will be spent learning how to write code (assuming you have little code writing background). For this reason, I suggest a platform where there already exists a large library of programs from which you can more quickly put together the required pieces for your studies. I would imagine TradeStation would be at the top of the list (although they would become your Broker----unless that has changed recently). If you trade Forex, the MT4 platform has a very large size of available code to get you started.

One may paper trade a trading-system.

One may use tight stops or buy at the money puts.

click on indicators and see buy/sell signals!
