I made a copy of the chart below just as a reference for the next time TRIN closes as high as it did on July 11th:

Trin close: 5.16
FWIW Aug 11, 2010 the TRIN closed @6.25.
The market had just attempted and failed to make a new high.
Sound familiar?

It looks like big red candles and high closing TRINS did not make THE bottom tick in the past year, but often were close to it.
These were the only closing TRINS I could find over 4. Several 3's were seen: 6/1/10, 6/22/10. 8/30/10, 3/16/11.
Historical Data: http://stockcharts.com/h-hd/?$TRIN

Of course March 16 was the V bottom.

So, Roger, is this buy now? Or sell?

My reference was to the extremely high TRIN NOT being a bottom as noted on the chart. I think this might be a handy reference in the future. The 5 day TRIN average is at 1.08
