Cosmic rays drive cloud cover and sunspots (and the like) affect them inversely, and it is cloud cover that drives global climate variation.
Roger and I suspected this all along. This is proof of the mechanism.
I might add that it's probably more complex than that, and certainly more complex than the Warmists have been pretending. The man-made component, however, appears to be trivial, at best.

I think the dynamics are fascinating and will probably never be fully understood.
The shifting magnetism in the earth's core...what causes that?
Is the earth's core cooling or is it being constantly heated by the Sun's gravitational fields.
Is the earth just a part of a celestial dynamo?
Is the earth's core iron or gold as some have theorized?
(That's a fun one to think about.)
Are plankton constantly absorbing carbon and depositing it on the ocean floor, creating an endless supply of "fossil" fuel while at the same time actually effecting the weather itself, as has been posited?
Plankton control the weather! And make OIL!
Little plankton may be able to change the weather, and longer term climate, in ways that serve them better.
It's almost hard to believe, but new NASA-funded research confirms an old theory that plankton can indirectly create clouds that block some of the Sun's harmful rays."
So many questions, so little beer.

"Baby, it's hot outside" or "Girls are a diamond's best friend"
As the piggy-back video makes clear, when it comes to heat waves, the man-made component is not the least bit trivial.

The hypothesis that cosmic rays and the sun hold the key to the global warming debate has been Enemy No. 1 to the global warming establishment ever since it was first proposed by two scientists from the Danish Space Research Institute, at a 1996 scientific conference in the U.K.
“The theory will probably be able to account for somewhere between a half and the whole of the increase in the Earth’s temperature that we have seen in the last century,” Mr. Kirkby told the scientific press in 1998, explaining that global warming may be part of a natural cycle in the Earth’s temperature.
The global warming establishment sprang into action, pressured the Western governments that control CERN, and almost immediately succeeded in suspending CLOUD. It took Mr. Kirkby almost a decade of negotiation with his superiors, and who knows how many compromises and unspoken commitments, to convince the CERN bureaucracy to allow the project to proceed. And years more to create the cloud chamber and convincingly validate the Danes’ groundbreaking theory.

Supernovae and their cosmic rays explain mass extinctionslooks like the Svensmark hypothesis is borne out.
Cosmic rays drive cloud cover and sunspots (and the like) affect them inversely, and it is cloud cover that drives global climate variation.
• The long-term diversity of life in the sea depends on the sea-level set by plate tectonics and the local supernova rate set by the astrophysics, and on virtually nothing else.
• The long-term primary productivity of life in the sea—the net growth of photosynthetic microbes—depends on the supernova rate, and on virtually nothing else.
• Exceptionally close supernovae account for short-lived falls in sea-level during the past 500 million years, long-known to geophysicists but never convincingly explained.
• As the geological and astronomical records converge, the match between climate and supernova rates gets better and better, with high rates bringing icy times.
Svensmark's theory explains the Permo-Triassic Event, a catastrophic mass extinction about 250 million years ago which divides the Paleozoic Era from the Mesozoic Era. Thus, Svensmark describes this paper as a work of "astrobiology," the study of the connection between astronomy and biology.

Report shows UN admitting solar activity may play significant role in global warming...
“Even after the IPCC acknowledges extensive evidence for ... solar forcing beyond what they included in their models, they still make no attempt to account for this omission in their predictions. ... It's insane,”
Rawls worries that if solar activity falls, the effects could be dire.
“Unlike warming, cooling really is dangerous, regularly dropping the planet into hundred-thousand-year-long glacial periods.”
NASA has said that there is evidence that the most recent “Little Ice Age” was caused by a dip in solar activity.
“Almost no sunspots were observed on the sun's surface during the period from 1650 to 1715. This extended absence of solar activity may have been partly responsible for the Little Ice Age in Europe,” during which temperatures were colder by about 1.8 degrees F than they are today, NASA has reported.
I wonder if volcanic eruptions could effect temperature fluctuations (change), causing intermittent cooling between warming patterns?
Let's not even think about that possibility. POGO said it's US. That's good enough for me.
It's US and that requires US to pay more taxes.

More BLASPHEMY!
Report shows UN admitting solar activity may play significant role in global warming...
When "An inconvenient Truth" came out Gore's charts -- when examined at all closely -- showed that temp PRECEEDED CO2 rise. He, however, tried to say it showed the opposite. There was a court trial in the UK where his dog and pony movie was prohibited from being shown in UK schools due to 8-10 blatant falsehoods, including the chart interpretation I just mentioned.
At the same time -- charts that had been kept for MANY years by Climate Scientists -- showed that Solar activity correlated to temperature fluctuation perfectly. Of course, this blew his premise out of the water --- except that NO ONE used this data since it proved that people making money from AGW were very wrong.
Also, the last mini-ice age ended in the 1880's. During the period after an ice age, the planet -- by definition -- gets warmer. NO one on the AGW side ever addressed this.

It's sad that science is so totally corrupted by political agendas and the desire to please big money donors with the "correct" results.
The old pronouncement, "a crooked and twisted generation" fits today, in so many ways, on so many levels.
I wonder if this affected the climate:

or this:

or this:

or this:
or this:
Or it could be the .03% of CO2 in the air:

Weather scientists such as Al Gore predicted increasingly deadly hurricanes after Katrina, however they failed to show up.
Now in the midst of a predicted Solar Maximum of activity, it seems that the Sun didn't get the memo from the experts.
The calm before the solar storm?
NASA warns 'something unexpected is happening to the Sun'
2013 was due to be year of the 'solar maximum'
However sunspot numbers are well below their values from 2011, and strong solar flares have been infrequent, as this image shows - despite Nasa forecasting major solar storms
As this picture shows, in fact the sun is incredibly calm - baffling experts

Sunspot counts jumped in 2011 and dipped in 2012
Pesnell expects them to rebound in 2013: 'I am comfortable in saying that another peak will happen in 2013 and possibly last into 2014.'
He spotted a similarity between Solar Cycle 24 and Solar Cycle 14, which had a double-peak during the first decade of the 20th century.
If the two cycles are twins, 'it would mean one peak in late 2013 and another in 2015'.
THE SOLAR CYCLE
Conventional wisdom holds that solar activity swings back and forth like a simple pendulum.
At one end of the cycle, there is a quiet time with few sunspots and flares.
At the other end, solar max brings high sunspot numbers and frequent solar storms.
It’s a regular rhythm that repeats every 11 years.
Reality is more complicated.
Astronomers have been counting sunspots for centuries, and they have seen that the solar cycle is not perfectly regular.
