AAPL earnings tonite. Even though AAPL is in no way representative of the global economy, it has ridiculous weighting in indexes and is widely used as a measure of general market sentiment and animal spirits. No one is exactly sure what AAPL will post tonite, Estimates are all over the place, But some kind of upward motion in NDX into the number is likely. My guess is the number will be sold, if its good, it will pop first, if its bad it will not pop. But that will be tomorrow. Today its likely to support the NDX at least. AAPL earnings will also be the end of the earnings season ( the last relevant company to report) , and we are heading into the news vacuum.

Google Nexus 7 Release: 16GB model sells out
Just days after the Google Nexus 7 tablet was made available to consumers, the larger 16GB model is listed as sold out through the GooglePlay store.

At $200 and $250, Kim Komando said that it's the closest thing she's seen to an Apple tablet killer.

Competition will definitely gradually chew up AAPL's "first to market" lead.

Kindle Fire is a big seller too, and 3 times cheaper.

AAPL is now struggling for ideas. "Ipad Mini" for example.. a smaller version of Ipad. Add a cell phone capability to it, and its an Iphone..lol.

With Steve Jobs gone, things aren't going to get better. Thats why I think the market will yawn, at whatever numbers they will post. And beyond the news release, not much in terms of events for AAPL for a while, so no reason to jam the stock.

there are a number of bearish bat and butterfly patterns on the AAPL chart that would seem to suggest AAPL will get crushed after earnings....

i was thinking about buying the new google tablet but after thinking a bit more I realized maybe the microsoft surface tablet will be much better because it will have a real detachable keyboard which should double productivity.. i dont know about you guys but these darn tablet screen keyboards are a huge producitivity killer for those who want to do serious highly productive typing and work

I don't have a tablet myself, just watching kids play around with theirs. One has Ipad, and the little one has Kindle Fire.. and I have to say Kindle is an extremely viable product that cost me 3 times less, which makes me happy ;) I prefer the old fashioned laptops with real keyboard myself. As for AAPL.. i'm thinking it will be used as source of funds in the declining market. The only difference is will they pop after the news or will they just dump right away. But daily chart says, if it opens 20 points down tomorrow, it won't be surprizing.

From Tech Trader Daily today

AT&T said it activated 3.7 million of Apple‘s (AAPL) iPhone units last quarter, topping the 2.7 million that Verizon Communications (VZ) reported last week. The company had “post-paid” wireless subscriber additions of 320,000, and buyers of smartphones made up 77% of the company’s total phone sales in the quarter. Average revenue per post-paid subscriber rose 1.7%, year over year, to $64.9

This economy is in worse shape than 2008. Market can't even depend on AAPL anymore. I think we take out the May lows now.

Yep. The world has won. AAPL isn't indicative of real economy anyway. But the economy even got them.
