Johnny Carson loved Buddy Rich. I remember seeing him there many times. He made me a nervous wreck!

Buddy Rich actually played at my high school in the early 1970's. I still have my ticket he autographed. I saw him again about ten years later in St. Petersburg, Florida doing a show at some hotel. He was so disgusted with some large party at the show that was talking while he was playing that he stormed off the stage without coming back for a second bow or an encore. I was mad too. What a bunch of philistines. My Dad was a big fan of Artie Shaw and brought me up believing Buddy was the greatest drummer of all time. He also liked Gene Krupa who I secretly liked better than Buddy. Then came Keith Moon and... the rest is history.

Thanks for the Carson link.

Every time I see one of those old Carson interviews, it brings back such good memories.
Nobody like before or since.

Steve Allen, (in a rare clip) began the tonight show in 1953
JackPaar, (1957 to 1962) Interviewed by a Tulsa native Tony Randall
Dick Cavet (Writer for Parr and Carson) Interviewing Jimi Hendrix
Jay or Dave.

But there was only one Johnny.
