i don't know about shorts; i'm sure there are some, large and small, who haven't covered and are still in denial. but there is another sector, perhaps much larger, which is probably starting to hop around their offices and trading rooms.
i am thinking of the many UNDER-INVESTED mutual funds and hedge funds and pension funds and private equity funds. we have heard some of these come on the financial shows (CNBS and bloomberg and others) and brag about 50% cash positions and such.
what a day after that huge gain yesterday: all this time we have spent in positive territory and now firming in the last hour.
i don't think ms. market likes those people.

Market lost about 50% in past year, in that context these rallies are not so huge.
