IT'S NOVEMBER ALREADY!

Per Kim Komando: Black Friday Deals

In Part:

This year, Blu-ray players will sell for about $150. Off-brand players may even dip to $100.
A $400 laptop is common these days. So, retailers will tempt you with rock-bottom prices this year.

You’ll see low-power ultra-portable netbooks around $200. These often use Intel’s Atom processor. They also have relatively small hard drives or use flash memory.

You’ll see basic 8- or 10-megapixel point-and-shoot cameras for $80-$100.

Deals on digital photo frames will also abound. Expect to see 7-inch frames around $30. You’ll also see 9-inch frames around $50.

You’ll see unbelievable prices on MP3 players. For example, you can pick up a 1-gigabyte player for about $10.

Some things simply won’t be discounted, so don’t hold your breath. Nintendo’s Wii and Apple’s iPhone won’t be discounted.

In fact, don’t expect steep discounts on any Apple product. The best you’ll find on Macs and iPods is about 10 percent off.

Sites such as BFAds.net, BlackFriday.info and BlackFridayAds.com post copies of retailer’s sales fliers and internal memos.

Roger, I drive by a pawnshop on my way to work. They have on their sign "$50.00 off all laptops" I don't have the heart to call and tell them that none of the laptops they have in inventory are worth $50.00. The other side of their sign says "We buy gold". I won't be buying gold until they take it off their sign. I just love sentiment analysis! UBW

Man there are a ton of 'em out there which are light years ahead of what we had just a few years back.
I got 2 Toshiba Satellites under $500 ea.
One runs Vista (for the wife)
Can't get her wife off one of it.
She lives at Pogo.com either popping balloons or playing Turbo 21 or seeing who John Mayer may have knocked up. LOL!

My old one runs XP which everybody likes better than VISTA.
I've had no problem with it and it's going on 5 or 6 years.

You need at least 2 gigs of ram so if you see a cheap one with 1 gig, add in the cost of additional memory.

MSS will tell you the Apple is the way to go but it's still pricey compared to PCs.

I think nearly all have wi-fi. but you want that for sure.

I remember the first $1000 laptop I bought.
New it was almost useless.
I think an extra 500 megs of ram cost almost 1/2 the cost of the laptop.

As far as bargains at pawnshops?
Not usually, unless you are buying wearable scrap gold jewelry by weight.

I just bought a Dell with all the frills. Was $1600, but I figure it will last as long the one I'm typing on now (a tiny little Sony with 1GB of RAM and an 11inch screen for travel). Get the fastest hard drive you can find. 7200RPM instead of the 5200. It makes a huge difference. I bought the solid state hard drive but it's super expensive if you're not looking to spend some coin. Yeah, Toshibas are great. Try newegg.com or build your own at one of the big names. D
I don't make predictions, I just react.
