This really explains the pot users that I know.
The question remaining is: Are small brains are the cause or the effect of pot use?

STUDY: Regular pot smokers have shrunken brains...
Among those who use marijuana at least four times weekly, the brain motivation and reward network looks different and works differently than it does in those who don't use pot, a new study finds.
Even now, however, the authors of the study acknowledge that they cannot discern whether a pot smoker's smaller orbital frontal cortex is the cause or the result of chronic marijuana use. A 2012 study found that subjects with a smaller orbital frontal cortex at age 12 were more likely to start using marijuana by age 16, suggesting that deficits in this crucial region may predispose one to substance-abuse behaviors.

STUDY: POT USERS MAY HAVE 'FALSE MEMORIES'...

The study found memory deficiencies despite the fact that participants had stopped consuming cannabis one month before participating in the study.

'The present results indicate that long-term heavy cannabis users are at an increased risk of experiencing memory errors even when abstinent and drug-free,' the authors wrote.

'These deficits show a neural basis and suggest a subtle compromise of brain mechanisms involved in reality monitoring.'

'This lingering diminished ability to tell true from false may have medical and legal implications.'

In a similar study earlier this month, researchers found that teenagers who smoke cannabis for just three years could be damaging their long- term memory.

A new study published in the Lancet showed that about half of all cases of psychoses in Amsterdam could be prevented “if high-potency cannabis were no longer available”.    https://www.washingt...lized-marijuana

Marijuana-related traffic deaths in Colorado have increased by 151 percent, while overall state traffic deaths have increased by only 35 percent. Colorado emergency room visits related to marijuana increased by 52 percent and marijuana-related hospitalizations overall increased 148 percent.

study published in JAMA Psychiatry in February found that adolescent marijuana use is associated with significant increases, by up to 40 percent, in the risk of developing depression and suicidal behavior in adulthood.

The most compelling libertarian argument for legalizing weed has been that legalization would reduce crime by removing a black-market profit incentive along with attendant violence. Since legalization in Colorado, violent crime has increased nearly 19 percent (compared to the national increase of just 3.7 percent). Likewise, property crime increased approximately eight percent, compared to the national decrease of 13.6 percent.

I'm always suspicious of police statistics because there are no standardized criteria as to what constitutes "marijuana-related" for example. It's like when police increase enforcement of drunk driving roadside checks and then say drunk driving is up 120%. Well, no, charges laid for drunk driving are up 120% but that in no way implies actual drunk driving is up, down or sideways.

Eye-opening new book, Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence, by longtime New York Times reporter Alex Berenson.

The evidence that pot, and pot alone, triples your chances of developing a psychosis is overwhelming. Berenson cites hundreds of studies showing a direct link between cannabis use and psychoses like schizophrenia.

The United Kingdom’s scientific community has been screaming from the rooftops about the link between cannabis and psychosis for decades. As a consequence, marijuana use and support for legalization have collapsed. From the early 2000s to today, cannabis use in the U.K. has been cut by a third.

British scientists and journalists weren’t embarrassed by the hyperbolic nonsense of “Reefer Madness,” so they could tell the truth.

While in Britain scads of scientific studies are published with titles like “What Is the Mechanism Whereby Cannabis Use Increases Risk of Psychosis?” and “The Acute Effects of Synthetic Intravenous Delta 9-Tetrahydrocannabinol on Psychosis, Mood, and Cognitive Functioning,” the American media produces only happy talk about pot.

Tell your children that book is a load of bollocks with no scientific basis whatsoever.

Surgeon general warns marijuana could be more dangerous than a decade ago

Marijuana damages adolescent brains, health professionals write in NY Times op-ed

Two health professionals penned an op-ed in The New York Times that despite society’s shift on marijuana use, it does not change the fact that the drug is not safe for high school and college students.

The column said marijuana use can impair "executive function, processing speed, memory, attention span and concentration." They said the explanation is simple: the adolescent brain is still vulnerable “especially the prefrontal cortex.”
