Thomas's Twitter poll:

Technical

Bulls 31%
Bears 10%

Fundamental
Bulls 22%
Bears 37%

This has to be an amateur poll. The market is at new highs, in an up trend, with positive momentum and great breadth, but only 31% are Bullish on the technicals? What technicals are they using? I want to fade those!!!

Also, 37% Fundamentally Bearish? That's a fade, generally.

I wouldn't use this as a ST indicator, but it does suggest way too much pessimism and no likely top any time soon.

Nearly all the evidence points to higher prices, the one exception is the lagging small caps. In a new bull run they are supposed to be leading, so what may happen is more range bound trading for another few months, maybe 2800 to 2950 until that resolves.

Although there is near term divergence, small caps are still up about 10% relative to SPX for the last 2 years.

There's only two choices in the poll. Bullish or Bearish. There is no Neutral. Not sure why they don't add up to 100%. Maybe if you look but don't vote, but not sure. Anyway the only way to look at it is the spread between bull and bear, which is what Callum Thomas does.

The small caps, semiconductors, retail and transports are all negatively diverging.

Actually it does add up to 100%. All of them added together. :)

And, of course there are more ways to look at this besides the spread. There are ALWAYS other, often inobvious, ways to look at any sentiment read. I would have thought that I'd demonstrated that, by now!

Not sure the reliability of these numbers but that is not what I have seen on a few web site for instance....

And the general tone suggest this one is more correct. And IF this is Correct then Expecting a building top is not out of the question.  Gold and bonds are not through the roof because everything is roses and under control in la la land. I think they are sending a signal about the second shoe about to drop.
