When we lived in Houston, we had a pool which basically filled the back yard.  Raccoons visited us frequently at night to wet their food and for a drink.  Late one summer evening completely sober (you'll understand why I state this in a second) I watched while one raccoon walked onto the steps into the pool.  He turned toward a couple of others on the side of the pool and motioned with his right hand waving for them to come into the pool.  I almost fell over.  That's language, sign language, but language never the less.  He might as well have said the water's fine, come on in.  They are incredible creatures.  Happy Thanksgiving to all on the other side of the pond.

Regards,

Douglas

I grow dahlias as a hobby and I put t-stake labels on each variety, hundreds of them. We had a raccoon living in the tree by the driveway, and I guess he thought it was amusing I planted the little stakes in my raised beds, so he took some and planted them in the front lawn. He was not totally a genius though as one night he fell out of the tree while sleeping and he died when he hit the driveway.
