I'm curious how others handle (monitor) 24 hour markets as an individual trader.

One has to sleep sometime and with market swings they way they are, one can make or lose a lot of money

while they are sleeping.

Anyone care to share how they are going about monitoring 24 hour markets?

I can comment on that as I've been doing it with the ES and bitcoin for awhile now.  The best thing to do is go for rogue trades as the pajama traders will fill them quite frequently either buying or selling.  Been rare that I've been caught on a trade but I generally just add to trades if they are going the wrong way.  One reason just selling options is best as it gives you a wide berth so you don't have to worry about how the market is moving overnight.

12SPX - Thanks for your input.

Since we went to 24 hour I've been getting up periodically throughout the night and losing a lot of sleep.

Others may be willing to accept the wide swings, I'm not.

Its not that I am under capitalized, I just don't like loses.

This is where the big boys have it over all of us as they can hand off to another office in another time zone.

Besides the obvious increase in revenue stream for the exchanges with 24 hr, this may of been done for other reasons, if one thinks about it.

You might find this article interesting from The Balance.com, but every one is different. Go with what suits your personality type:

Best Times of the Day to Buy and Sell Stocks

Here's when it might be best to trade the stock market

The best times to day trade the stock market may be the first two hours of the day. In the U.S., this is from the time the market opens at 9:30 a.m. ET to 10:30 or 11:30 a.m. ET. Another good time to day trade may be the last hour of the day. In the U.S., that is from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET.

Trading When the Market Opens

Trading during the first one to two hours the stock market is open on any day is all many traders need. The first hour tends to be the most volatile, providing the most opportunity (and potentially the most risk). Although it sounds harsh, professional traders often know that a lot of "dumb money" is flowing at this time.

Futures trade virtually 24 hours per day during the weekday, so if you're day trading index futures such as the E-mini S&P 500 (ES) or an index-based ETF like the SPDR S&P 500 (SPY), you might begin trading as early as 8:00 a.m. during pre-market hours and begin tapering off at around 10:30 a.m. That provides a solid two hours of trading, usually with a lot of profit potential.

Trading During the Last Hour

Many day traders also trade the last hour of the day, from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. ET. By that time, traders have had a long break since the morning session, allowing them to regroup and regain their focus.

Yes I would say I do most of my trading for options and day trading the first couple hours of the day as volume always tapers off midday anyhow.  dwn, I would end your trading at the close and then wherever you think the market may go the next day try a few rogue out there trades and see if you get filled overnight then either get out first thing or adjust to the trade.  I never trade market with stops but use profit stops once a trade is showing a profit.  If I'm wrong I'll add to it up to quite a few times before I'll pack in a trade and take a loss.  Approaching my 10th month of no losses with day trading.  With summer coming might slow down as tennis season is starting earlier this year it seems.  There actually wasn't one month through winter we didn't get to play outdoors although one time was just barely above freezing once lol!!

Rogerdodger and 12SPX:

Am aware of time blocks some feel are best for trading.

Maybe I'll try that idea/concept for awhile and see what my returns are.

At least I should get more sleep.

My number one trading goal: "At least get more sleep."  TRUE!
