"Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York said one of the cases in her state was a 67-year-old woman from Suffolk County on Long Island who had recently traveled to South Africa and had tested positive for the new variant, which is highly mutated. The woman had been vaccinated and had mild symptoms of Covid-19, Ms. Hochul said. She said the new cases were “no cause for alarm.”

This shows Omicron variant follows the trend of "less deadly and more contagious".  it's okay for vaccinated people to get infected, so the variant can spread out to take over, as long as it causes mild symptoms.

I see with a couple more variants following the trend of less deadly and more contagious, the pandemic should end soon.  Eventually, Covid-19 virus will evolve into a virus that causes fatality comparable to that by influenza........................

At this point the best strategy is No Lock-downs, so to let the variants that are less deadly and more contagious to take over.  I see this strategy will be adopted by governments of the developed countries...............

Maybe that is the best strategy. It seems to be more contagious than Delta. While the hospitalizations are rising along with cases, we are not seeing a big rise in ICU admissions in South Africa. We will know a lot more within a week, but it does seem to be more mild at this point.
