They can not switch out of fossil fuels for 50 years.
It will take at least that long to replace power generated by oil & has & coal. Electric cars are currently running on majority of power generated by fossil fuels.

Yep, While I am huge fan of electric cars, cuz they are just better (save for perhaps heavy duty or off road type stuff in their current form), they certainly are not going to be juiced up by windmills any time soon.

I do expect that by 2030, there will not be many combustion sedans being sold, and if the electric pickups prove their merit over next few years, not many of those in combustion form either.

My bro has an 8 year old Tesla, zero problems, never stranded with a dead battery. Just Tires and Brakes for the maintenance. And amazingly, he told me his battery is still at less than 10% degradation, although conceivably that could start to fall off fairly soon.

I do realize that currently, a replacement battery when finally needed, is a fairly expensive proposition.

But I also remember when a 35" flat screen TV was $13,000. Just saw an ad for an 82" 4K TV at best buy for $749...just sayin'....

82" haha now that is a real TV replacement for trip to movie theaters.

As for electric cars, intrinsically they are simpler than ICE (internal combustion engines) because no radiator, no coolant, no water pump, no fuel pump, no fuel injectors, no muffler, no catalytic converter, no exhaust pipe, no air intake filter,  etc. The weak link is battery which as you already know is expensive to replace and has environmental disposal issues. And there are just not enough fast charging stations available on Interstates. Even a fast charging process can take 20+ minutes. And if you get stranded somewhere with dead battery, most likely will need a tow. But I can see the befits for city commuting.

I believe a regular car has like 22,000 moving parts and an electric 200 so yes way more efficient!!
