In my opinion a patient should know enough about medicine to ascertain whether or not a doctor is a lunatic.

Okay, so he's not a lunatic ... are you still going to let him slice your chest open or prescribe thalidomide to your pregnant wife?
Knowing just a little more, might be beneficial ... could even save your life.

Good point!
I should have said a patient should know at least enough to know whether or not the doctor is a lunatic.

Ahhhhh ... thank you. That gives a completely different meaning, and I tend to agree
