Port-au-Prince, Haiti, is one of the largest cities in the world without a central sewage system. There are no sewers connecting sinks, showers and toilets to hulking wastewater treatment plants. Most of the more than 3 million people in the metro area use outhouses, and much of that waste ends up in canals, ditches and other unsanitary dumping grounds where it can contaminate drinking water and spread disease.

Without a sewage system to divert waste out of clogged canals, the Good Friday rainstorm filled the streets and alleys of Project Drouillard with 3 feet of raw sewage. Seven people drowned in the canal. Jean Claude Derlia got an infection that still hasn't gone away.

Did you post this as your Presidential proof that it is a "sheethole" country?

Haiti Travel Advisory

Reconsider travel to Haiti due to crime and civil unrest.

Violent crime, such as armed robbery, is common. Local police may lack the resources to respond effectively to serious criminal incidents or emergencies. Protests, tire burning, and road blockages are frequent and often spontaneous.

The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in some areas of Haiti. U.S. Embassy personnel must receive permission from the Embassy security officer to travel to some areas of Port-au-Prince. Embassy employees are discouraged, and in some instances prohibited, from walking in city neighborhoods, including Pétion Ville. After dark, Embassy personnel are prohibited from visiting establishments without secure, on-site parking. Travel outside of Port-au-Prince is prohibited after dark. Embassy employees are under a curfew from 1:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. The use of public banks and ATMs by Embassy employees is prohibited at all times. Embassy personnel are prohibited from using any kind of public transportation throughout the country.

Read the Safety and Security section on the country information page.

If you decide to travel to Haiti:

Avoid demonstrations.
Arrange airport transfers and hotels in advance, or have your host meet you upon arrival.
Do not physically resist any robbery attempt

Third world countries don't have proper sewage system - what a revelation ! laugh.png

Drinking water contamination? It's happening all over the world. China is probably the worst among all. Have you seen Erin Brokovich?

I had visited Labadee, Haiti on a cruise during 2004. Stunningly beautiful Caribbean waters and nice tropical islands. This post took me back, down the memory lane.

All US Citizens Ordered Out Of Haiti Amidst Mass Unrest And Chaos  https://www.zerohedg...us-coup-efforts

In its prior travel ban the State Dept. described a rapidly deteriorating situation of “Protests, tire burning, and road blockages are frequent and unpredictable. Violent crime, such as armed robbery, is common,” and said further that “Emergency response, including ambulance service, is limited or non-existent.”

“Travelers are sometimes targeted, followed and violently attacked and robbed shortly after leaving the Port-au-Prince international airport,” the State Department said.
