You might want to consider calling your Senator and Representative to give your opinion on this:

Combine this with the most ridiculous pricing (inflation) I've ever seen. I'm hedging with VIX futures here.

I literally just dropped off my wife's truck and they wanted a $370 diagnostic fee to look at the vehicle.

Isn’t that the most annoying thing? All they do is hook up a reader and it throws out a code…takes less than a minute. What a rip!

You can buy your own code reader at Amazon for as low as $20.00…you can then go to someplace like AAMCO and get it fixed for 40% less than a dealer.

I have one   "CAN OBDII/EOBDII MEMO SCANNER" which can identify over 1000 error codes from the car's computer.

370 diagnostic fee is almost 4% of a 10K valued vehicle.. that is crazy

by the way, when I start up my toyota camry on a cold start in the morning, a medium to small size plume of smoke comes out the tailpipe.....    i fear this is a blown head gasket, and yet I dont see any oil leaks around the engine head...  ''

any ideas ?

i fear this is a blown head gasket

You might just need new plugs or could be running rich  (O2 sensor going bad, but not enough to trip a PCM code.

First check your oil to see if you have water droplets.  Can leak internally not externally.

At startup, if possible, have someone stand behind the car and see if there is a sweet smell.

You can also do a block test.   Your local Autozone and O'Reilly's, or whoever, will have a kit with instructions.

First buy a OBDII scanner on eBay. It should cost less than $50 for a decent model.

Water gets condensation in tail pipe on cool mornings, and can show a white plume at start.

But after car has run a couple of miles, there should be no more visible plumes.

Stop the car after 5 mile run, put it in park, and step lightly on gas. If you see a white plume then,

after car engine is plenty warmed up, it shows leaking main gasket. This is not atrociously expensive repair.
