Many people oppose nuclear energy because it produces radio-active waste.

Nuclear is more expensive power than coal. Because it requires sophisticated construction and monitoring.

Dont want another Chernobyl or 3 Mile Island incidents.

However properly designed and operated nuclear power is safer than wind power.

Fukushima was very bad design,

I forgot the specifics but you could store all of the nuclear waste in the world in a surprisingly small area, and a good amount of it can be reused if I remember correctly.

Facts are irrelevant to tree huggers.

The damage to the nuclear plant was not due to the earthquake obviously, given that in Japan they know how to build, but to the monster mass of water that hit the place. Simply they could have avoided to build it there and could have preferred an inland place which is tsunami risk free. However in italy the imbecile communists we have will never let us build anything

In case you have not looked at drawings of Fukushima power plant, the cooling pumps were located on top of the room housing the reactors.

When reactors mal-functioned, the cooling pumps became inoperable and unable to help control the out of control fission.

exactly.....but it was not the earthquake to cause the damage to the electric system of the power plant, but the tsunami, the ocean water. With the electric system out of order, there was no cooling possibility for the reactors and the disaster eventually was inevitable. I didn' t follow with much interest  when it happened, but I always heard on tv the experts saying it was the tsunami the cause of anything. However we are not Japan and we have a couple of regions that are earthquake risk free. We can' t go on paying energy so much, we need it at cheaper price. We can' t dismiss the perspective of a clean nuclear energy because Japan had a disaster. Japan is the land of the biggest earthquakes after California. We are not like that. We too have earthquakes, but not so big......

Rule #1 when designing nuclear power plant. Never locate cooling pumps on top of reactors. I understand space is at premium in Japan but will be safer to locate parking lot on top of reactors and cooling pumps on the parking lot.

however instead of telling me to stay warm next Winter, please tell me to stay fresh now......I' m in a sort of letargy when it's this warm and the least I' m worried about is how cold next Winter will be. I hope it may be colder than ever so that I can forget how irritating and warm this Summer was.
