In the face of so much evidence that the data that has been used to produce the 'hockey stick' charts is fraudulent, in the face of cherry picking data to support theories, destruction of evidence in the face of direct confrontation about falsifications of data, outright negligence in data collection practices, and unscientific methods... how can the Global Warming Alarmists still keep carrying their banners high? How do these people avoid the reality that the conclusion drawn from grossly flawed and manipulated data can NOT be proof of man made global warming? And then it hit me. I've heard about this before. End of Days Cults. This is not new, folks. This is centuries old stuff. Read the short excerpt attached and tell me this is not EXACTLY what is happening. Then, feel pity for those who have burned their bridges, staked their reputations, their jobs, their families, and their friends on this. They've lost everything. Yes, then there's the money... but I'm thinking about the regular guy, the neighbors, the friends... the people who AREN'T paid to lie and distort facts.... the recipients of the news articles and puff pieces. The *end user* that has to decide whether or not they really believe in man made global warming as the 'End Of The World' scenario. These are the folks that have to make a decision in their own minds as to whether or not they believe the facts and unadulterated data, or the friendly faces on TV that tell them the exact opposite.

I mean, they KNOW they're being lied to, but can they choose correctly who to believe?

It's these ordinary folk I'm referring to; these are the cultists referenced in the first post.

After reading the piece posted above, I have a much better understanding of what these folks are going through. It must be absolutely awful.

Climate change belief given same legal status as religion

An executive has won the right to sue his employer on the basis that he was unfairly dismissed for his green views after a judge ruled that environmentalism had the same weight in law as religious and philosophical beliefs.

Gore clears carbon dioxide of most blame

Gore explored new studies - published only last week - that show methane and black carbon or soot had a far greater impact on global warming than previously thought. Carbon dioxide – while the focus of the politics of climate change – produces around 40% of the actual warming. Gore acknowledged to Newsweek that the findings could complicate efforts to build a political consensus around the need to limit carbon emissions.

Climate economist says he was gagged
Associated Press

A SENIOR CSIRO environmental economist has gone public to accuse the science body of trying to gag his report attacking the Federal Government's climate change policies

The paper, by Clive Spash, criticises the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme.

Dr Spash wrote that the economic theory underpinning emissions trading schemes was far removed from the reality of permit markets.

He said trading schemes were ineffective because of the difficulty of measuring emissions, and because placing a price on carbon affected all prices in the economy, with highly unpredictable consequences.

He claims the CSIRO had tried to block the publication of the report, despite it being internationally peer reviewed and accepted by the journal New Political Economy.

The CSIRO said it was an internal matter and was currently being reviewed.

Washington Post figures it out

As the Post story shows, the mainstream media is now coming to terms with the death. Environmentalists are still trying to avoid pulling the plug, but the corpse is already cool to the touch and soon it will begin to smell. As the global greens move from the denial stage of the grief process, brace yourself for some eloquent, petulant and arrogant rage. Tears will be shed and hands will be wrung. The world is stupid, uncaring, unworthy to be saved. Horrible Republicans, evil Chinese, demented know-nothing climate skeptics have ruined the world and condemned our grandchildren to lives of sorrow and pain. Messengers will be shot; skeptics will be blamed for asking questions and the media (and the internet) will be blamed for reporting the answers.

This storm will have to blow for a while; there’s a lot of emotion and conviction in the ‘climate change’ community. A year ago they were the last, best hope of the world, a shining band of brothers (and sisters) who were saving the planet and taming the excesses of self-destructive capitalist greed. The Force was with them and the world lay at their feet. They were going to be greeted as liberators by a grateful world desperate to be saved.

Now they are just another piece of roadkill on the heartless historical highway

Is global warming a religion? Paul Krugman thinks so.

Paul Krugman -- The conscience of a liberal

Krugman: 'You can deny global warming (and may you be punished in the afterlife for doing so — this kind of denial for petty personal or political reasons is an almost inconceivable sin).'

The Psychology of Groupthink on Climate Change Hysteria

Most sensible people who are not financially dependent upon the climate change gravy train are sensible enough to fully realise man cannot control climate and extreme weather. Yet, incredible though it may seem, there still remain some, who are otherwise intelligent, who still believe the claims of reversible impending human caused climatic destruction of the entire globe. How can this be? What drives people to cling to such strange and extreme beliefs?

1.Illusion of invulnerability – Creates excessive optimism that encourages taking extreme risks.

2.Collective rationalization – Members discount warnings and do not reconsider their assumptions.

3.Belief in inherent morality – Members believe in the rightness of their cause and therefore ignore the ethical or moral consequences of their decisions.

4.Stereotyped views of out-groups – Negative views of “enemy” make effective responses to conflict seem unnecessary.

5.Direct pressure on dissenters – Members are under pressure not to express arguments against any of the group’s views.

6.Self-censorship – Doubts and deviations from the perceived group consensus are not expressed.

7.Illusion of unanimity – The majority view and judgments are assumed to be unanimous.

8.Self-appointed ‘mindguards’ – Members protect the group and the leader from information that is problematic or contradictory to the group’s cohesiveness, view, and/or decisions.

In short, it is clear that groupthink—a later, more scientific word for “tribalism”—is strongly at work within alarmist climate science, however much the affected scientists refuse to recognize it. As a result of tribalism (groupthink), alarmist climate science makes assertions that are often extreme (polarized), including the explicit or implicit endorsement of claims that global warming will lead to “oblivion,” “thermageddon,” mass extinctions, and the like. Indeed, one of the ironies of climate science is that extremist AGW believers like Gore, Hansen and Schneider have succeeded in persuading the media and public that those who don’t make grandiose claims, the skeptics, are the extremists.

On Earth Day in 2010, Paul Rubin, economics professor at Emory University, wrote an article in the WSJ titled “Environmentalism as Religion: While people have worshipped many things, we may be the first to build shrines to garbage,” here’s an excerpt:

Consider some of the ways in which environmental behaviors echo religious behaviors and thus provide meaningful rituals for Greens:

• There is a holy day—Earth Day.

• There are food taboos. Instead of eating fish on Friday, or avoiding pork, Greens now eat organic foods and many are moving towards eating only locally grown foods.

• There is no prayer, but there are self-sacrificing rituals that are not particularly useful, such as recycling. Recycling paper to save trees, for example, makes no sense since the effect will be to reduce the number of trees planted in the long run.

• Belief systems are embraced with no logical basis. For example, environmentalists almost universally believe in the dangers of global warming but also reject the best solution to the problem, which is nuclear power. These two beliefs co-exist based on faith, not reason.

• There are no temples, but there are sacred structures. As I walk around the Emory campus, I am continually confronted with recycling bins, and instead of one trash can I am faced with several for different sorts of trash. Universities are centers of the environmental religion, and such structures are increasingly common. While people have worshipped many things, we may be the first to build shrines to garbage.

• Environmentalism is a proselytizing religion. Skeptics are not merely people unconvinced by the evidence: They are treated as evil sinners. I probably would not write this article if I did not have tenure.

Some conservatives spend their time criticizing the way Darwin is taught in schools. This is pointless and probably counterproductive. These same efforts should be spent on making sure that the schools only teach those aspects of environmentalism that pass rigorous scientific testing. By making the point that Greenism is a religion, perhaps we environmental skeptics can enlist the First Amendment on our side.

Pretty apparent what is going on here -

Psychological projection was first conceptualized by Sigmund Freud as a defense mechanism in which a person unconsciously rejects his or her own unacceptable attributes by ascribing them to objects or persons in the outside world instead. Thus, projection involves projecting positive or negative qualities onto others, and is a common psychological process.[1][2] Theoretically, projection and the related projective identification reduces anxiety by allowing the expression of the unwanted unconscious impulses or desires through displacement.[3]
