Temperatures drop to record low as arctic blast sweeps Canada, US

Arctic air sweeping through Canada and parts of the United States (US) sent temperatures plunging to record lows on Wednesday with a wind chill of minus 40 deg C.

Canada was the coldest nation in the world at the start of the day with with temperatures as low as minus 43.1 deg C in the Northwest Territories, according to public broadcaster CBC.

The science behind the scenes of frozen Northern Europe

The idea that the sun causes shifts in the latitudinal position of the jet streams and climate zones has been put forward by me for several years on this site and elsewhere.

What is actually taking place with our climate are changes on the Sun (in this respect the reduction of Sunspots) and has nothing to do with co2 or the results of "man made" pollution. History has shown before that long periods of a calm Sun shift weather patterns i.e changes are made to the location of the Jet Stream

It will take some pretty sharp lawyers to figure out how to tax the jet stream...or the sun.

Then there's this man-made problem (no doubt caused by all of the GPS satellites pulling on the North Pole) :

Magnetic north shifting by 40 miles a year, might signal pole reversal
14 hours ago –
The magnetic pole is moving faster than at any time in human history, causing major problems for navigation and migratory wildlife.
"The thing that really makes the pole's current movement so unusual, however, is the speed that it is shifting. In the last decade alone, movement has increased by a third, throwing off compasses by roughly 1 degree every five years.

Changes that fast have already caused major headaches for the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Tampa International Airport in Florida has just spent a month renaming all of its runways, which are named after the degree at which they point on a compass. Similar changes were recently made to runways at Fort Lauderdale and Palm Beach, and across the country runways now need to be renamed at least once every five years.

The shifting pole may also become a grave concern for migratory wildlife, such as birds, turtles and other sea creatures that use Earth's magnetic field to navigate over great distances. It's unclear if these animals are capable of recalibrating their navigational instincts to compensate for the changes."

Maybe another "Pole Tax" is coming. Or how about a magnet tax?
We can't afford to do nothing.
Soon the world will be upside down and all the water in the oceans will spill out. ;)

In the US, winters have been getting colder

The data is from the National Climatic Data Center which plainly shows that winters have cooled across all of the US over the last decade

Winter temps in the north central US have been falling at an astounding decadal trend of 8 deg F/decade.

Historically, low solar activity has been connected to cold winters in Europe. A definitive physical mechanism for this fact has not yet been presented. This analysis however shows that the influence of solar activity together with stratospheric mechanisms acting on the Arctic Oscillation is statistically significant

Most Severe Winter Start In 200 Years! + Euro Municipalities Now Ignoring Foolish Predictions Of Warm Winters

... yesterday winter made its debut in Southern Germany and Austria – and how!

German RTL television called it the “most severe start of winter in 200 years!“, saying many meteorologists were caught by surprise. Up to half a meter of snow fell at some locations.

Gone are the mild winters of the sort Europe saw in the 1990s and early 2000s. Indeed for central Europe the last 5 consecutive winters have all been colder than normal – a record!

Even if one accepts some of the Global Whining franchise's temperature data, Sun activity or lack thereof and it's effect on the earth cannot be denied with any logic.
UNLESS you are a denier!
Look at what the low Sun activity, as evidenced by the low number of sunspots, did to temperature in the 1880's thru early 1900's.
And now that we have had a "decade of cooler temperatures" look at the Sun activity most recently.

Arctic invasion: Brutal weather system threatens most of US

An enormous, brutal mass of arctic air is shoving south over most of the United States—threatening 32 million people for the rest of the week with snow, ice, wind and extraordinary drops in the temperature.

Some of the country's biggest cities are being hit: Ice threatens to knock out power in Dallas, Denver could get almost a foot of snow, and Chicago could plunge from the mid-50s on Wednesday to the low teens by Friday night.

"This cold air is going to overtake just about the entire country," said Carl Parker, a meteorologist for The Weather Channel.

Canada records temperatures colder than MARS

In Canada’s city of Winnipeg, a temperature of -31C was recorded on Tuesday – colder than the surface of Mars (at -29C), as a deep freeze causing extreme wind chill
extends across much of southern Manitoba.
