Obamanomics Explained

Businesses are reducing part-time hours across the board from 30-34 hours to 25 hours or less because Obamacare defines full-time work as 30 hours. Business owners (small and large) are cutting the hours people work so they can avoid penalties for not offering health-care insurance.

Today I learned of another company with 2,000+ part-time workers sending out a notice to part-time employees that their hours would be capped at 25.

Other examples are easy to find however, just check out the reference to Olive Garden and Red Lobster below.

Do the math. Reducing hours from 30 to 25 for 2,000 workers is a net reduction of 10,000 hours. To make that up, the company will have to hire 400 workers, an increase of 20%.

This is happening across the board in many industries. 10-20% staff increases in fast food chains, restaurants, grocery stores, etc., is one hell of a lot of jobs and right at election time as well. Did someone figure this out in advance or was it pure luck?

The part-timers will be counted in BLS's U.6 figure (unemployed, underemployed and stopped looking for employment). This figure is now around 15% and for the past four years has ranged from about 14.5% to 17.5%. I suspect with the increase in part-timers U.6 will become comfortable at the top end of the range or higher.

The answer is easy. Any one hired for more than a month is full time. Allowing employers to have long term casual workers is just a rort. The US stupidity is making health care employer paid. the rest of the world makes it a tax deduction for employees. And if they are unemployed it still keeps them paid up. And US wages have been stagnent for decades. Hmmm, I wonder why they aren't consuming. WE find it hilarious that a country as rich as the US has homeless people everywhere and multitudes in trailer parks. Would I live in the US. Not on your nellie. Your society is a disgrace in the rest of the world.

Even before the train wreck of Obamacare, health care was half-a-disaster because that’s the percentage of medical care in this country that was already provided by the government — via Medicare, Medicaid, veterans’ hospitals and other public hospitals.

In 2008, a single county in Florida — Miami-Dade — received more money in Medicare home health care payments than the entire rest of the country combined. This continued throughout the entire year and was finally noticed by our Department of Health and Human Services in December 2009.

Do you think it would take a private insurer two years to catch onto the fact that health care claims coming from a single county in Florida were larger than the rest of the country combined?

Lifelong politicians haven’t the first idea what an efficient, operating system would even look like. If only we had a presidential candidate who had spent his life working in the private sector …

The way to fix health care is to take as much as possible away from the government and give it to the private sector. It is a universal law of nature that everything run by the government gets worse and more expensive over time — the postal service, airport security and Amtrak. Everything run by the private sector gets better and cheaper over time — cellphones, computers, hair products, dishwashers, etc.

The Rule of Law

ObamaCare Makes A Mockery Of The Rule Of Law

Among the objections to ObamaCare, one that has not gotten as much attention as it should is the president's power to waive the law for any company, union or other enterprise he chooses.

The 14th Amendment to the Constitution provides for "equal protection of the laws" for all Americans. To have a law that can cost an organization millions of dollars a year either apply or not apply, depending on the whim or political interest of the president of the United States, is to make a mockery of the rule of law.

How secure is any freedom when there is this kind of arbitrary power in the hands of one man?

What does your right of freedom of speech mean if saying something that irritates the Obama administration means that you or your business has to pay huge amounts of money and get hit with all sorts of red tape under ObamaCare that your competitor is exempted from, because your competitor either kept quiet or praised the Obama administration or donated to its reelection campaign?

You POLITICAL RANTS are most amusing.

Here in Washington State we recently got snookered (by Costco) into turning over the state-run liquor stores to the private sector. Now every nip costs at least 20 percent more and the selection is considerably less than under state control (for instance, we have to go to Canada to get the malt Scotches we used to get around the corner).

So here's a toast to the way it used to be -- s-s-s-your as s-s-s-hit, the private sector can't run a booze barn as well as the government! :D

"If you've heard this story before, don't stop me because I'd like to hear it again," Groucho Marx (on market history?).

Does not sound like the problem is with the private sector but rather with the fact that voters approved getting the state out of the liquor business without understanding what the state would do in terms of taxes. Perhaps the voters were ignorant of what the state planned to do but that is not the private sector's fault. If the voters don't like the outcome they can reverse it.

"The new law imposes 27 percent in fees on wholesalers and retailers to compensate the state for closing its lucrative liquor business. (While the wholesalers' fee drops to 5 percent from 10 percent in 2014, the retailers' fee stays at 17 percent.)"

Election 2012: America Chooses Slavery

Humans are the only animal to willingly submit to slavery. We want a gilded cage more than the freedom to fail.

This is America's Future:

Argentina’s president rocked by biggest protest in a decade

Tens of thousands of Argentinians blocked the streets of Buenos Aires in the country’s largest anti-government protests in more than a decade.

Demonstrators marched against rising inflation, crime and corruption under President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, whose popularity has plummeted since she was re-elected last year as the economy wobbles.

Banana Republic

In 13 Philadelphia wards, Obama received 99 percent of the vote or more.

In a city where President Obama received more than 85 percent of the votes, in some places he received almost every one. In 13 Philadelphia wards, Obama received 99 percent of the vote or more.
