The NFL Is Full of Ray Rices

The Baltimore Raven was indefinitely suspended even as one of his teammates suited up after punching a girlfriend in the neck.

BIG MONEY - Sports media shields and promotes sports (entertainment media shields and promotes Hollywood)

While leading sports “journalism” enterprises like ESPN and Sports Illustrated were in “Are you ready for some football!” mode, TMZ — home to all things Kardashian — ate their lunch on the Ray Rice story.

ESPN has south of $15.2 billion reasons to look the other way when their BFF, the NFL, has a family squabble that they would prefer to address behind closed doors where all the best beatings occur. The same goes for other networks for whom NFL games are bottomless ATMs, but with concussions.

Conspicuous Compassion -- right-thinking, tender-hearted folks think that they weep for all the suffering and misery in the world because they are sensitive, intelligent, and morally upright

Charles Dickens in 1853 created Mrs. Jellyby, a woman so consumed with saving the souls of savages in Africa that she completely neglects her own miserable, ruined family. Dickens called her activity 'telescopic philanthropy'

These days, of course, jet-travel means that our Mrs. Jellyby's Oprah, Brad, Angelina, et al. can dash into Africa, throw some money around, take some photos, then get the hell out before they pick something up from the water. But the final result is pretty much the same. A few photogenic band-aids will be ostentatiously applied to gaping social, political, and economic wounds. Meanwhile the pop-fop Bono, whose sunglasses alone could feed an African village for a week, will keep scolding us about our selfish over-consumption that is causing all this misery.

This combination of sermonizing and self-loathing is the essence of Third-Worldism, that idealization of the non-Western combined with self-flagellation over the sins of imperialism and colonialism. French philosopher Pascal Bruckner wrote a brilliant analysis of this cultural neurosis in 'Tears of the White Man.' Bruckner describes how Third-World suffering has become a lucrative commodity for the modern media.

The "Django Unchained" actress who claimed she was harassed and hurt by cops after making out with her boyfriend was actually having sex in her car according to witnesses ... then went on a rant with cops accusing them of racism and not knowing who she was ... according to police audio obtained by TMZ.

TMZ obtained police audio of the incident. Watts instantly plays the race card when Sgt. Jim Parker asked for her ID. She quickly moves from the race card to the fame card -- then storms off, refusing to show her ID.

Joseph Gordon Levitt turns the camera on the paparazzi and they don't like it much.

However they even have a mention of "La Dolce Vida", a mere instant, but, of course, even an instant becomes more substantive than pretty much anything you post about celebrities. :)

FUN VIEWING - PAPARAZZI ON YOUTUBE

And it all ends happily.

P.S. Ever see the documentary "$ellebrity"? Buy it, get some perspective. :bowtie:

Nice video, covers a lot of the issues. Don't forget Sen. Bernie Sanders is in there -- he who has an I.Q. higher than the cumulative for the Repub...uh, I mean Hypocritic Party...in the House. ;)

HERE'S ANOTHER VIDEO STORY ON LEONARDO AT THE U.N.

Wow, 400,000 marched in NYC for climate change awareness! Probably didn't penetrate your consciousness or conscience but the times they are a'changing.

:)

Two women this week broke into Keanu Reeves' home.

The second woman was NAKED.

From the link:

The following Monday, the L.A. Police Department had to return to Reeves’ Hollywood Hills residence when the actor called 911 because of a naked woman a cleaning crew found reportedly using his shower, and taking a dip in his pool. TMZ reports she walked through a gate that the cleaning crew left unlocked while working.

As "celebrity narcissist" problems go, we should all be so lucky. :bowtie:

P.S. stocks, do you know where your daughter is?

NFL Factoids

NFL Commissioner makes 44 million a year

Most NFL franchise owners are billionaires

78% of National Football League players are either bankrupt or in financial trouble within two years of retirement

The average career span in professional football is a mere 3.2 years

Brain trauma affects one in three NFL players.

Players end up being responsible for child support. Shawn Kemp had at least seven children with six women, Derrick Thomas seven with five, Jon Kilgore 15 with 4, and Travis Henry nine with nine. Henry was imprisoned for non-payment of an estimated $170,000 annually in child support.

Rosie O'Donnell, Whoopi Goldberg get in shouting match in front of 'The View' studio audience

The fight broke out during a commercial Thursday after Goldberg cut off O'Donnell to go to the break. O’Donnell accused her co-host of hurting her feelings, and when she wouldn't drop it, Goldberg snapped: 'I’m really sick of your s---!'
