No, I think the reason is somewhere along the way people lost a fortune on equities and said
never again. so it's not really that gold is so appealing but that equities are to be avoided,
otherwise the majority on the gold board would be posting equity calls and trades
as well as gold, but that's not the case.

I agree with you. Gold is a horrible instrument to trade most of the time. Gold is a better investment vehicle than a trading vehicle. I have positions in both physical gold and silver and rarely look at them as my investment decisions are based on monthly/quarterly charts.
Gold is in an insipid intermediate term uptrend. It will remain insipid, until it takes out 130 on GLD, on a monthly closing basis. It's only then we can see any kind of acceleration or dynamism in Gold.
